Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie.
Hi Stephanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I suffer from severe scalp psoriasis which caused serious discomfort. I wasn’t interested in starting long term injectables so I went on a journey to heal myself. As a massage therapist and esthetician, I’ve always had an interest in holistic therapies so this was an exciting adventure. Once I tried my first head spa, I was hooked and knew everyone needed this in their life.
I settled on the name MAJA because it’s is my four children’s initials and they are at the heart of everything I do. I read, researched and studied but most importantly I practiced. I had the entire head spa set up in my living room for months and got my hands on as many scalps as I could. I needed every ounce of feedback to create what I felt would be a one-of-a-kind experience.
Once I opened the doors I was in complete and utter shock. The clients loved it and told their friends and family. Before I knew it. We were adding more suites and opening in new cities. In one year, we had grown to 5 suites in 3 cities. It was beyond anything I could have ever imagined
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any new business, there are always bumps along the way but perspective is everything. I’ve learned so many lessons during the challenging moments and that has allowed me to grow as a leader. Hurricanes are always something we face as Floridians and we were hit with 2 right after we opened. I opened my doors to the public and offered free hair washing, coffee, ice cold water, snacks and a place to cool off. I feel that community involvement is crucial. The best way to get through a hard time is to look for something kind you can do for others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Head spa is a new therapy here in the United States but it has existed for centuries in Asia.
As a massage therapist/esthetician, I have added my own unique massage combinations to this already luxe experience to make it the ultimate way to relax and disconnect. A true escape from the every day stresses we all face.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My only advice is to be passionate and truly care about others. Go into any new business with good intentions and the desire to help others.
For me, personal success is not defined by the money in the bank. This is about how many people we can help. How many heads can we soothe? How many hearts can we heal? How many overtired, stressed out souls can finally take a deep breath and unclench their jaws?
