Check Out Quinn Cale’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinn Cale.

Hi Quinn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been based in the Tampa area for about 15 years, though I’m originally from Delaware. My path as an artist hasn’t been a straight line I actually spent over 10 years working at Apple, which is where I sold my very first painting and learned to bridge the gap between design and technology.

Since then, I’ve fully immersed myself in the local art scene. My work has ended up in galleries like MOSI, The Morean and Art Center Sarasota, as well as the local coffee shops, bars, and kava lounges. I’ve painted for festivals like SHINE and Tampa Walls, and had the honor of being an inaugural artist for both the Gasparilla Remote Artist Studio and the Black Art Gala Tampa.

Two of my favorite career milestones were collaborating with our local teams designing a helmet for the Tampa Bay Rays and a jersey for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Today, I focus on large-scale murals and canvas work, always looking for new ways to leave a colorful footprint across the Bay Area and inspire a new generation of artist.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
t definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Early on in college, a professor actually suggested I try something else besides art. At the time, hearing that was crushing. I ended up trying out a few other career paths, but nothing ever clicked the same way. Art was just built into who I am. It really goes back to that old cliché: if you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. Creating is easily the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

There have been plenty of technical and creative hurdles along the way, too. At one point mid-project, an app I was relying on to create Augmented Reality art was completely discontinued. It felt like a massive setback in the moment, but it forced me to pivot, adapt, and teach myself a new software platform to bring the vision to life.

Looking back, every bump along the road, from self-doubt to tech glitches, just pushed me to become more resilient and versatile as an artist.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a muralist and painter specializing in bright, high-contrast, almost neon artwork that bridges themes of technology and nostalgia. Being born in the 90s heavily influences my creative visual language, so I love infusing retro digital elements into bold, modern spaces.
Picking a single piece I am most proud of is tough because I usually lean toward whatever I’ve wrapped up most recently. Designing a helmet for the Tampa Bay Rays was an incredible career highlight. Another milestone close to my heart is my “Chroma Cat” mural in St. Pete, created for the 2025 SHINE Mural Festival. It was my very first mural festival, and bringing that piece to life right here in my home community meant everything to me.
What sets my work apart is the intersection of traditional mediums with interactive technology. A number of my paintings feature integrated Augmented Reality. When viewers look at the physical artwork through a smartphone, an extra animated surprise comes to life on top of the canvas.
Ultimately, my goal is to spark a deep sense of nostalgia for people of my generation while continuing to push the spatial and visual boundaries of public art.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that usually surprises people who follow my work is that I’m entirely self-taught as an artist. My college degree is actually in Business Administration.
