Check Out Jocelyn Flores’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Flores.

Hi Jocelyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Casa Josies, my cookbook club, after I was going through a rough time in my life. I was struggling a lot with stress and depression that started during the COVID pandemic. I soon came to realize that making food and trying recipes was my safe space. It was a place where I could escape and be creative. I’ve always loved going grocery shopping and walking down the aisles, and trying new food. But I never fully realized how much food was my passion. Even after I graduated from the University of Florida with my journalism degree, I did an internship at a food magazine for photography. But once I noticed how I kept turning back to food, I decided to start a cookbook club. Cookbooks were my learning tool when I had no one to really bond over food with. And so, I want to provide a community I wish I had.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With any business, there always seem to be challenges. For me, the biggest challenge has been believing in myself and having hope. When this is lacking, it’s hard to wake up every day and work toward your goals and the goals you have for your business. It’s learning to be okay with failing because your hope outweighs everything. I just choose to believe everything will work itself out as long as I stay consistent.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started my cookbook club, Casa Josies because I wanted to bring together people who have the same interest in baking and cooking. Most book clubs are all about having a social platform to discuss books. But with my cookbook club, you can share pictures of your bake and offer tips for recipes with one another. It’s really about having a support system in the kitchen and for your creative self. And trying different recipes from a different cookbook every month keeps things fun and interesting. I love trying new recipes and have a hunger to expand my skills in the kitchen. My cookbook club allows the freedom to do that with a community.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If you’re also a foodie who loves being in the kitchen, then you can join my cookbook club at CasaJosies.com. You can support my business by being a free subscriber or by joining the club through a monthly subscription.
