Check Out JENNIFER REAL’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to JENNIFER REAL.

Hi JENNIFER, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Music has always been part of my life. I come from a family of singers, and my father was an opera singer, so music was constantly around me growing up. Some of my earliest memories are of impromptu concerts in our living room for family and friends. Singing felt as natural to me as breathing.

At the same time, I struggled with confidence. Some of the people closest to me often labeled me as “stupid” when I was growing up, and I believed it for far too long. Those words became an internal narrative that followed me into adulthood, causing me to doubt my abilities and hold myself back from opportunities. Over time, I’ve learned that other people’s opinions do not define my potential, and finding my voice as an artist helped me find confidence in myself.

Despite that, music kept finding me. In high school, I joined the gospel choir at Newburgh Free Academy, where we competed against choirs from across the country. The experience was transformative. Our choir earned top honors, and to my surprise, I received the award for Best Soprano Solo Artist. At the time, the recognition felt almost unreal because I still carried so much self-doubt and never truly believed I was good enough to win anything. Looking back, that award was one of the first pieces of evidence that my abilities were greater than the limitations I had placed on myself.

While many performers follow a traditional path with years of formal training, my musical education was relatively limited. Aside from music theory classes, four years of French horn, and a brief period of vocal coaching to prepare for NYSSMA evaluations, most of what I learned came from listening, performing, and trusting my instincts.

Over time, I stopped worrying about what I lacked and started focusing on what I had: a voice, a love for connecting with people, and a genuine passion for music. That passion grew into a career performing throughout Florida as a solo artist, with duo, trio, and full-band options available for special events. Today, I perform hundreds of shows, entertain audiences of all ages, and continue building a career that I never fully believed was possible when I was younger.

What I’m most proud of isn’t just the music—it’s the journey. The little girl who didn’t think she was good enough eventually found her voice, and now she gets to share it with others every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. The struggle is real—no pun intended.

One of the biggest challenges of being a full-time performer is that opportunities can appear overnight and disappear just as quickly. I’ve learned that the opportunities with the longest shelf life are often the ones I create myself. That’s why I’ve spent so much of my career building relationships, creating my own shows, and finding ways to connect directly with audiences rather than waiting for someone else to open a door.

I’ve also discovered that I’m not particularly good at fitting into neat little boxes. The entertainment industry, like many industries, often has established lanes and expectations. I’ve always been more comfortable coloring outside the lines. Whether that’s because I’m an independent spirit or just a stubborn artist, I’ve never quite mastered the art of becoming exactly what someone else wants me to be.

There have been plenty of setbacks along the way—venues closing, gigs disappearing, opportunities that seemed promising but never materialized, and moments when I questioned whether I should keep going. But every challenge taught me something valuable. It made me more resilient, more creative, and more determined.

The upside is that I’ve built a career that’s authentically mine. Today, I perform regularly, produce my own opportunities, and continue to pursue larger stages and broader audiences. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about getting invited into the room—sometimes it’s about building your own stage and inviting everyone else to join you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a full-time vocalist, entertainer, and independent artist based in St. Petersburg, Florida. I perform as a solo artist, duo, trio, and with a full band, entertaining audiences at private events, corporate functions, festivals, restaurants, clubs, and community venues throughout Florida.

My specialty is creating experiences that feel both polished and personal. My repertoire spans soul, Motown, R&B, jazz, disco, pop, yacht rock, and dance music, allowing me to connect with a wide variety of audiences. Whether I’m performing an intimate cocktail hour or a high-energy dance set, my goal is always the same: to create a genuine connection through music.

In addition to performing, I’ve been writing original music for many years and continue to explore that side of my artistry. Recently, I’ve also expanded into DJ services, creating even more ways to bring people together through music and entertainment.

What I’m most proud of is building a career doing what I love while staying true to who I am. But the truth is, none of it happens alone. The audience is a huge part of every performance. No two crowds are ever the same, and that’s where the magic lives. Every room has its own energy, personality, and story. As performers, we bring the music, but the audience brings the experience to life.

What sets me apart is authenticity. I don’t try to fit into a formula. I bring my personality, humor, heart, and love of music to every stage. The most rewarding moments are when a room full of strangers becomes a shared experience, and for a few hours, we’re all part of the same story.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is gratitude. The simple miracle of another day, a roof overhead, and the ability to experience life through my senses.

I feel deeply blessed to live a life filled with music, creativity, and possibility. To spend my days in a state of song and expression feels like an honor.

I’m also inspired by the limitless possibilities that every day holds. A new opportunity, a meaningful connection, a creative idea, an unexpected adventure—you never know what might be waiting just around the corner.

For me, happiness is being present enough to appreciate it all.
