Check Out Gregorio Diaz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregorio Diaz.

Hi Gregorio, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started when I opened a Facebook page to start posting video recipes because many of my Latino friends and other Latinos here in Florida did not speak Spanish. They would tell me that they have had a hard time learning recipes from their culture because their moms or abuelitas would only speak Spanish and they couldn’t understand how to make their recipes. I started making my videos in Spanish and English at the same time and saw that people were responding really well to the content and concept we posted. Me and my wife got excited as, week by week, the followers kept on growing. Once people started asking questions, suggestions and requesting different recipes, we felt obligated to fulfill those requests and began making more and more videos. We pour our hearts on each video. We do everything with a lot of love, and we think that this has brought us to where we are today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, every dream, every accomplishment, every milestone we have set has come with its own set of struggles. There is not an instruction book or manual that would tell us what to do. It has been a tough road, and we had to learn through our mistakes and our successes, and as we learned through them… we’ve grown and have become what SABOR with Love is today. Some of the struggles that we went through were not knowing what was and was not allowed on social media, but then you learn as you go, and it becomes more easier to understand the social media requirements. We’ve had sleepless nights where we have been recording videos and editing afterwards, to be up and ready, early in the morning to go to our regular jobs. This was taking a toll on us until we decided that one of us had to make a tough decision. So, my wife Nicole quit her job to dedicate more time to SABOR with Love since she is the one that does the recordings and editing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a chef. I can say that I have been cooking all my life. Back in Puerto Rico, I used to own two small restaurants and catering business. Once I moved to Florida, I decided to work for a corporation instead of opening up a restaurant since I didn’t want to go through all that hassle again, lol! I definitely love exploring, learning and cooking food from other countries, but I specialize on my cultural cuisine. I’m known for putting my own twist onto the traditional recipes while talking in Spanish and English at the same time. Being able to bring back our Puerto Rican recipes in both languages for those brothers and sisters who haven’t been able to learn them because of the language barrier make me really proud. I would say that what sets me apart from others is being able to make my videos while going back and forth in Spanish and in English at the same time.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would like to say to the readers, never be scared of trying new things in the kitchen. I don’t think there are any mistakes in the kitchen, just giving our own twist and takes on our recipes while using the ingredients we love. And remember… The Sky Is The Limit!
