Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Marange.
Hi Eddie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was working as a police officer, and I received an opportunity for a corporate job with a pay increase I couldn’t afford to turn down. This left me with a job that paid well, had flexibility, but lacked passion and purpose.
I previously had a little success on TikTok and had amassed 27k followers. I noticed I would completely lose track of time whenever I filmed and edited video on my iPhone. I then decided I was going to buy a camera. Unfortunately, I knew nothing! I still thought DSLR cameras were the standard. I took to YouTube and learned about different types cameras and learned mirrorless cameras existed.
I purchased my first camera from Facebook Marketplace, and I didn’t even know how to take off the lens! I devoted all of my extra time to learned about the camera. I looked for any and every opportunity to film and offered to do everything for free. I dove into different filming and editing techniques.
I knew I wanted to film for country artists, but I had no connections in the industry. In January of 2024, I began posting about country music recommendations. Little did I know, it would change my life! In 4 months, I organically grew my TikTok following from 27k to 200k+. This opened up the opportunity to film for several country artists, go on tour, and even interview some of my favorite artists!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge was the internal one. Nobody warns you about how bad imposter syndrome can strike. The internal dialogue of “Am I good enough?”, “What will people think?”, “What if I mess up the shot?”, “What if they realize I’m not good enough?”.. the list goes on and on!
I’m grateful I pushed those thoughts to the side and pursued what I knew I had to pursue. I don’t think this is talked about as often as it should be, but I really wish it was.
It’s important to know that most people struggle with self doubt, but you’ll surprise yourself once you push through to the other side.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in helping country artists and brands develop their brand and tell their unique story through short form video content. I’m proud of the fact that I stepped into this field having zero connections or experience, but I used the tools at my disposal to build a network and get the opportunities I always dreamt of. What sets me apart is that not only can I capture great video, but I make the person on the other side of the camera feel comfortable. I help them build their confidence on camera, and I have a deep understanding of expanding reach and organically building a following on social media.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I connected with a local country artist that I filmed for free to begin to work on my portfolio. I did everything I could to get better and learn about the craft. I then intentionally built my following to open doors in the country music industry. I never approached any situation like I deserved it, but instead like the blessing that it was. I constantly spent time researching artists and managers and DM’ed everyone I could find. When the opportunity came, my preparation was ready to seize the moment!
