Today we’d like to introduce you to Bula Barua.
Hi Bula, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story has always been rooted in creativity. From an early age, I found myself drawn to art, music, and the freedom of expressing what I felt through different forms of creativity. Creating was never just a hobby for me—it became a way of understanding myself and connecting with other people.
Over the years, my creative journey has taken different directions. Art has given me a way to capture emotions, ideas, and experiences visually, while singing has allowed me to express those same feelings through my voice. I’ve come to realize that, although they are different forms of expression, they come from the same place within me.
Getting to where I am today has been a journey of growth, experimentation, and learning to trust my own voice. There have been challenges and moments of uncertainty, but each experience has shaped me and encouraged me to keep creating and sharing my work.
Today, I’m embracing both my artistic and musical sides and giving myself the freedom to explore where they can take me. I’m excited about this chapter of my life because I feel that I’m still discovering new parts of my creativity. My hope is that through my artwork, singing, and whatever I create next, I can connect with people and perhaps inspire them to embrace their own creativity as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most creative journeys, mine has had its share of uncertainty, setbacks, and moments when I questioned myself and wondered whether I was on the right path.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning to believe in my own creativity and not compare my journey to someone else’s. There are times when you put your heart into something and don’t immediately see the response or recognition you hoped for. It can be discouraging, especially when you’re trying to find your place and figure out how to share your work with the world.
I’ve also had to navigate unexpected changes and losses along the way, including having things I built online disappear. Those experiences were difficult, but they also reminded me that my creativity isn’t defined by an account, a platform, or anyone else’s approval. What I create comes from within me, and I can always begin again.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the struggles because they’ve made me more resilient and more willing to take chances. I’m learning that the creative journey isn’t about having everything figured out—it’s about continuing to create, continuing to grow, and having the courage to start over when necessary.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work is really about exploring different ways of expressing emotion and beauty. Two of the things I’m most passionate about are my blown glass work on canvas and singing.
With my art, I work with blown glass as a unique medium on canvas, combining the delicacy and luminosity of glass with the texture and openness of a painted surface. I love the way glass captures and transforms light, creating dimension, movement, and a sense of something almost alive. Each piece is very hands-on and has its own character, so there is an element of unpredictability that I embrace. I’m interested in creating work that people don’t simply look at, but experience.
Singing is another important part of my creative life. For me, singing is a very direct and emotional form of expression. It allows me to communicate in a completely different way than visual art does, but both come from the same place—my desire to connect, express myself, and move people.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve given myself permission to explore both of these creative worlds rather than feeling that I have to fit into just one category. I think what sets me apart is that combination. My blown glass work and my singing may seem very different on the surface, but both are deeply personal forms of storytelling. I’m constantly looking for ways to bring my own perspective, emotion, and sense of beauty into whatever I create.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a big believer in staying curious and continuing to learn, so I draw inspiration from many different places. I spend a lot of time looking at art, listening to music, and discovering the work of other artists and musicians. Social media can actually be a wonderful creative resource when used intentionally—it allows me to see what people around the world are creating and to discover ideas and perspectives I might not otherwise encounter.
I also find a lot of value in books and conversations about creativity, personal growth, and the creative process. Sometimes the most inspiring resource isn’t a particular book or app, but simply being around people who are passionate about what they do.
For me, the most important thing is to keep my mind open. I try to pay attention to the world around me, because inspiration can come from almost anywhere—a piece of music, a color, light reflecting through glass, a conversation, or even an unexpected experience. I think staying open to those moments helps me do my best work and keeps me growing both creatively and personally.
