Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has had many bumps. We were locked out of our initial office by our landlord. We had to scramble for new office space in a few days to reschedule all our patients. We lost significant money on advertising that was printed with our old address. Advertising our presence even at our new address was difficult due to the prejudice associated with Medical Cannabis therapy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician. The thing that I am most proud of is the fact that I was able to help so many people get off of narcotics and benzodiazepines. Medical Cannabis has provided a healthy alternative to treat anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, and many other medical conditions. Cancer patients present a great challenge and being able to help them with their pain, nausea, anxiety, and insomnia has been very rewarding.
What does success mean to you?
One patient at a time. I often ask patients to bring their significant others so that I can ask them how the patient is doing. My success is measured by the person who tells me that their husband is a different person, sleeps better, or their relationship is better. Success to me is my ability to help patients live a better quality of life. One example is a widower who was so anxious that he couldn’t drive. His daughter would drive from Miami to Tampa once a week to take him shopping. After several months, he was driving to visit her in Miami. He was able to achieve a better quality of life by controlling his anxiety.
