Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Wenzel.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always lived a very active lifestyle playing soccer and many sports. Growing up, we ate a heart-healthy diet due to my Grandfather’s needs. After working for professional sports, I began personal training and teaching group fitness. During my studies, I was led to The Pilates Method. While I began studying and teaching the Pilates Method, I became ill with a digestive disorder. This became a pivotal part of my career. As difficult as this life lesson was, it was another major course of education by ‘living it’ instead of going to a school for the experience. Instead of taking the prescribed medicine for the rest of my life, I chose to educate myself on other ways of healing and wellbeing. This led me on the most amazing path I am still on today! After doing an elimination diet to know what foods to avoid and understanding other ways to support my body, mind, and spirit, I was able to wean off the medicine and still do not take it today. In the meantime, this experience also helped me grow an affinity for herbs as I was making many of my own foods and would use these gifts to flavor my foods. Little did I know, they had such medicinal value. I then learned to make natural products with these treasures and began teaching in the community about healthy living. With all the internal trauma, I suffered many physical ailments. This helped me fine-tune my Pilates practice, teaching skills and gain a deeper affinity for The Pilates Method. I also achieved a better understanding of the power of the mind and the importance of overall well being.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The initial onset of the illness took two years to get the damaged and inflamed internal organs under control. The physical ailments that followed took another two years to balance without chronic pain. To this day, 20 years later, I still need to pay attention to the signs my body expresses to me in various forms. It is so important to pay attention to the signs and have a protocol to support what needs to be addressed on many levels.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Although much of my services are based on The Pilates Method, I am proud to offer the added support of knowing how important it is to pay attention to what is happening in someone’s life and how that may affect overall well being. I can offer guidance through using food as medicine, herbal knowledge, physical strength and flexibility, and other meditation and sound modalities to balance the body and mind to vibrate higher.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Having fun, being compassionate, practicing non-judgemental and my personal life experiences.
