We’re looking forward to introducing you to Skylear Sanchez. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Skylear, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time when I’m on my RipStik, just cruising down sidewalks while my daughter zips along on her scooter beside me, feeling the city open up around us.
Yoga has been my thing lately too, and I’ve been getting into audiobooks about self-improvement and building better habits. I’ve also been binge watching Stranger Things with my daughter and we’re obsessed!
We also just moved to St. Pete and love exploring the street art, soaking in how inclusive and wellness-focused the city is. Sharing these little adventures with her makes me feel grounded, connected, and like I’ve found my little community in a big city.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Skylear (pronounced Sky-ler) but I go by Sky. I’m a licensed massage therapist and the heart behind Little Miss Healing Hands, my mobile massage business in Tampa Bay. I release tension, manage pain, and help people feel their best through personalized mobile massage sessions right where they feel most comfortable, whether that’s at home, at an event, or even outside enjoying the city. I use a range of techniques including trigger point release, deep tissue, stretching, and relaxation.
What I love most is creating a uniquely tailored, holistic experience for each client, blending relaxation with real results. I’m passionate about making wellness accessible, showing people the power of self-care, and building a community that feels supported, even in the midst of busy city life.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Honestly, my daughter did.
When I became a mom at nineteen, I had no clue what I was doing. I was trying to balance college, adulthood, and raising a tiny human all at once. Most days I felt like I was just figuring life out as I went. But she gave me the strength to keep going, to learn, to grow, and to trust that I would find my way.
She always says she’s my mini me, and hearing that changed how I saw myself. It made me realize I had to become someone worth looking up to. People say your first child deserves the world because they go through everything with you, and that’s exactly what I want to give her. Not handed on a silver platter, but the understanding that hard work and commitment will always lead to success. I want her to know that if she can imagine it, anything can be hers.
Her belief in me pushed me to finish school, to keep moving forward after setbacks, and to build a life and career I could be proud of. In so many ways, she saw strength in me before I ever saw it in myself, and I’ve been growing into that version of me ever since.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Success without struggle has no value. You won’t hold onto it if you don’t know what it feels like to fight for it. I’ve faced my share: growing up without much, moving from Puerto Rico as a kid, living in a shelter with my mom and sisters, losing it all more than once, even starting over after leaving for the Navy. During those moments I found out how resilient I really am. Not because I did it all on my own, but because I always had my faith and God to rely on and a support system that would be there whenever I needed them.
Suffering shows you who’s really in your corner. It teaches you who’s with you because they care, and who’s there only for what you can do for them. Every time I’ve had to dig myself out, I’ve learned that faith, mindset, and the right people around me make all the difference. I actually relate a lot to Cardi B in her song ‘ ‘Get Up 10’ when she said “knock me down 9 times but I get up 10” cause no matter what life throws at you, you HAVE to bounce back.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Some truths are so woven into how I live that I forget they’re beliefs at all. Healing isn’t linear. Discipline is a form of self-respect. God meets you in the small, unseen choices long before the big breakthroughs. And starting over doesn’t mean failure, it means you’re still choosing yourself.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they say I helped people feel safe in their bodies, in their choices, and in their becoming. That I was steady, kept my word, and treated people with dignity even when no one was watching. That I didn’t rush healing or pretend to have all the answers. And that I lived what I believed, letting my faith show up in how I cared for others, how I rested, and how I started over when life required it.
