An Inspired Chat with Shereve Smith of Odessa, Florida

Shereve Smith shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Shereve, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
“While all three are valuable, I believe integrity is the most important. Intelligence and energy can accomplish great things, but without integrity, those strengths can be misdirected or misused. Integrity builds trust, lasting relationships, and a strong reputation—qualities that are essential not only in life but also in running a business and creating meaningful connections in our community.”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
“I’m Shereve Smith, a retired respiratory therapist with over 20 years in healthcare. I own and operate an assisted living community, and I’ve also ventured into hospitality as the owner and property manager of The French Chateau of Odessa—an elegant event venue and vacation rental in Odessa, Florida. The Chateau is unique because it blends charm and versatility, hosting everything from business mixers to weddings, retreats, and intimate gatherings. Outside of work, I’m passionate about music, travel, reading, and spending time with my family—passions that inspire me to create memorable, welcoming experiences for everyone who visits.”

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
“It’s hard to choose just one relationship, because I’ve worked in many industries before owning my own properties, and I interact with so many people every day. Each of them has played an important role in shaping who I am. But above all, my family has been the strongest influence—they’ve grounded me, supported me, and inspired me to keep growing personally and professionally.”

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
“Suffering taught me resilience, empathy, and perspective in a way success never could. It showed me the strength I didn’t know I had, the importance of compassion for others, and that even the hardest seasons can hold valuable lessons. Success is rewarding, but challenges shape your character and deepen your appreciation for every victory.”

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
“I’m deeply committed to The French Chateau of Odessa, our event venue and vacation rental. It’s been a true labor of love in an industry I had to learn as I went, and I’m dedicated to seeing it grow and thrive no matter how long it takes. Creating a place where people can celebrate, connect, and make lasting memories is worth every bit of the effort.”

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
“If I retired tomorrow, I think my customers would miss the personal touch I bring to everything I do—the warm welcome, the attention to detail, and the genuine care for their experience. I’m not just providing a service; I’m creating memorable moments and making sure people feel valued from the first conversation to the last goodbye.”
