We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kristin Tomasello. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Kristin, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, I’ve been enjoying the little things like watching sunsets, which always give me such a sense of peace. I’ve also been working on art projects with the special needs community through my foundation, and their creativity is so inspiring. And whenever I can, I love getting out into nature recently I’ve gone snorkeling, which is pure joy for me
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kristin Tomasello a nurse graduate, entrepreneur, author, and advocate for the special needs community. I founded the Kristin Tomasello Foundation, which creates inclusive art programs and events, like our Night to Remember Prom, for individuals with special needs in the Tampa Bay area. I’m also the creator of Costa Sea Suncare, an ocean-friendly sunscreen line inspired by my parents’ cancer journeys and my love for the beach.
What makes my work unique is how it blends heart and purpose from protecting families’ skin with safe, USA-made products, to building spaces where people of all abilities can create, connect, and thrive. Right now, I’m working with the City of Tampa to open the Grateful Hearts Center, a creative hub for the special needs community. Everything I do is fueled by a belief in kindness, inclusion, and using my story to inspire hope.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed my voice wasn’t strong enough to make a difference—that big change was for other people to create. Now I know that even one person’s story, kindness, or determination can spark something powerful. I’ve learned that my voice matters, and I use it every day to advocate for others.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Some of the deepest wounds in my life came from loss and watching loved ones battle life-threatening illness. My father’s fight with cancer and my mother’s battle with basal cell skin cancer changed me forever. I’ve also experienced grief that left me questioning my purpose. Healing came through my faith, turning pain into purpose, and creating spaces—like my foundation and my suncare brand—where others can find hope, protection, and joy. By serving and creating for others, I’ve found that my own heart has healed in ways I never thought possible.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is the real me but it’s the part of me that’s most focused on my mission and my purpose. I’m just as passionate and driven in private, but like everyone, I also have quiet, vulnerable moments that the world doesn’t always see. What you do see publicly my heart for the special needs community, my faith, and my commitment to making a difference is who I truly am.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think what people might misunderstand about my legacy is that my work didn’t just start when I founded my organization—it’s been a lifelong calling. Most people don’t know I started fundraising at 12 years old, organizing events and finding ways to help others even as a kid. My legacy isn’t just about the projects I lead today, it’s about a lifetime of using my voice and creativity to serve others.
