An Inspired Chat with Keisha McGee of Riverview, Fl.

We recently had the chance to connect with Keisha McGee and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Keisha, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
What I feel called to do now is teach. For a long time, I poured myself into creating luxury cakes and serving clients through Sweets on a Sunday, but deep down I always felt a pull to share my knowledge and help others grow in their own baking journey. Honestly, I was afraid of stepping into that role because teaching requires vulnerability it’s not just about showcasing what I can do, but opening up my process, my experiences, and even my mistakes.

Through my entrepreneurial journey, especially while journaling and reflecting on what legacy I want my business to leave, I realized that teaching is a natural extension of my purpose. It’s not just about cakes it’s about empowering others with skills, confidence, and creativity. So now, I’m leaning into that calling with boldness. I want to educate, mentor, and inspire the next generation of bakers, something I once shied away from, but now embrace fully.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, I’m Keisha McGee, founder and creative director of Sweets on a Sunday, a Riverview-based luxury cottage bakery specializing in custom buttercream cakes for weddings, birthdays, and celebrations of all kinds. What makes my brand unique is the way it blends artistry with intention every design is thoughtfully crafted not just to look beautiful, but to create a memorable experience for my clients.

Sweets on a Sunday has grown from simply making desserts into a platform that celebrates both excellence and education. I’m passionate about sharing my skills through upcoming luxury cake decorating classes and mentoring others who want to turn their love for baking into something greater. I believe desserts can be more than just indulgence they can inspire creativity, joy, and even confidence in others.

At the heart of my brand is my motto, Pray | Bake | Repeat, a reflection of the values that keep me grounded as I continue building, teaching, and expanding. Right now, I’m most excited about leaning deeper into teaching and offering others the tools to create not only stunning cakes but also lasting memories.”

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is my relationship with Jesus. My faith has given me clarity, courage, and purpose in every area of my life personally, professionally, and as an entrepreneur.

On a personal level, my relationship with Him reminds me that my worth isn’t tied to achievements, titles, or how others perceive me, but in knowing who I am in Christ. That truth grounds me and allows me to walk in confidence, even when things feel uncertain.

Professionally, this relationship has shaped how I lead, serve, and create. It pushes me to operate with integrity, excellence, and compassion, always striving to make sure that what I do isn’t just profitable but purposeful. As an entrepreneur, it has given me the boldness to pursue dreams I once thought were too big, and the faith to keep building even in moments of fear or doubt.

I truly believe Sweets on a Sunday exists because of this relationship. It is a reflection of my faith, my creativity, and my desire to use my gifts in a way that glorifies God while blessing others.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be this: You are enough and what God has placed inside of you is greater than what surrounds you. I think as little girls there comes a time when we second guess ourselves whether it’s our abilities, our beauty, or our place in the world. I would remind that little girl in me that her worth doesn’t come from comparison or validation from others, but from the gifts and purpose God has already planted within her.

I would tell her to trust the process, to lean into faith, and to remember that every challenge is shaping her for something bigger. The world may try to make you feel small, but God’s plans for you are always greater. Hold on to that truth, because one day you’ll see how every step, even the hard ones, were guiding you toward becoming exactly who you were meant to be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief I’m committed to, no matter how long it takes, is that purpose always outweighs pressure. Over the years, I’ve faced seasons of doubt, long nights balancing school, full-time work, and building Sweets on a Sunday. There were plenty of moments I wondered if I could really keep going. But what has anchored me is the belief that what God places inside of you will always sustain you if you stay faithful to it.

That’s why I remain committed to building Sweets on a Sunday into more than just a bakery it’s a legacy. I want it to stand as proof that faith, consistency, and creativity can birth something bigger than yourself. One of the projects closest to my heart is developing classes and mentorship opportunities for aspiring bakers. Teaching has always been a calling for me, and I know it won’t happen overnight. But I’m in it for the long haul, because I believe in planting seeds that will outlast me.

No matter how long it takes, I will keep showing up for the vision God entrusted me with to serve others, to create joy, and to inspire the next generation of dreamers.”

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I am walking in what I was born to do. For me, being both a cardiovascular sonographer and a baker may seem like two very different paths, but at the heart of both is the same purpose: serving people. As a sonographer, I’m able to use my skills to help patients, often in some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. As a baker, I get to create joy and celebrate life’s sweetest milestones with my clients. Both roles allow me to lean into my natural gifts of giving, nurturing, and caring for others, lifting their spirits, and creating experiences that matter.

So while these paths weren’t necessarily “told” to me, they both feel God-ordained. I see them as extensions of the same calling: to use my hands, my heart, and my creativity to make people’s lives better and happier.
