Alexis “Lexiee” Davis on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alexis “Lexiee” Davis. Check out our conversation below.

Alexis “Lexiee”, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Two things: coloring and playing cozy games. Both activities makes me feel like I’m reconnecting with my younger self, my inner child. It’s almost as if I’m in a protective bubble where everything feels like it’ll be okay after all.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alexis aka Lexiee aka thee coziest girly you know! I’m a cozy variety streamer/content creator (part-time) as well as a school psychologist (full-time). When I stream on Twitch, I often play cozy/wholesome games with horror games sprinkled in every now and then. I refer to my community as “thee cozy crew” & I just want people to feel comfortable when they tune in to whatever I put out.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My mom taught me most about work; hard work specifically. For most of my life so far, she has always put her all in her work. It fills me with joy that she’s retired and can find different ways to fulfill her time that’s not work. It also taught me the idea of sacrifice. Because she put so much into her work (not because she wanted to, but because she had to), it’s hard for her to truly find rest.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I definitely thought of giving up on streaming/content creating late last year/early this year. There’s fleeting moments where I feel as though I’m not doing enough to stand out/be different from other creators. I had to remind myself that I’ve built a wonderful, cozy community who feels at ease when they’re able to join streams or interact with me outside of Twitch. It brings me joy to remember that people are rooting for me and want to see me succeed in whatever I do. I also had to remind myself that comparison is the thief of joy. The creators I’ve caught myself comparing are some of my inspirations but also creators who have been creating for a little over a decade – of course I won’t have the same reach they have yet because I’m just starting out. When motivation and inspiration is as fleeting for me, I have to remind myself to push through because streaming & creating brings me joy.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Hard work pays off. Hard work has only ever made me burnt out. As a Black woman, I know I have to work 2-3x harder just to get an ounce of respect, recognition, etc. because mediocrity from Black women isn’t allowed. When you see others not putting in as much work as you yet “succeed”, it makes you feel hopeless and apathetic.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people talk about my kindness and supportive nature. I hope people talk about my humor and how I try to show up when I can. I also hope they talk about how much I emphasized resting (because I loveeeeee taking naps!)
