Today’s Artist of the Day features an interview with Allison Doty. Please find our conversation below.
We’re always amazed and inspired by the creatives in the community and we’re so excited to have a chance to ask you some fun questions today. To start, can you bring our readers up to speed on you and your work?
I am a rogue taxidermist. I specialize in pet and snake taxidermy. My mission is to transform the way we process grief and loss of our pets.
Do you think something about your art is misunderstood?
I think that pet taxidermy is still very stigmatized as a memorial option. At some point, people just widely accepted cremation as ‘normal’ and I hope to see that happen with taxidermy as well. I think that there is comfort in being able to see your pet again and touch them after death. I choose to pass no judgement on how others grieve.
Alright, before we go, let’s do a quick lightning round.
