Today we’d like to introduce you to Shena Canty.
Hi Shena, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off by having my own band for about three years. After having some setbacks in my life, I decided to pursue my musical career as an individual artist. Basically, music saved my life. I have had a lot of fun and success getting me to where I am. I have had actual placement in magazines and blogs locally and internationally, Real radio airplay not only in the U.S but also overseas. Shena Samone is an extraordinarily, captivating Tampa-based music artist, performer, and writer. She lives to share her passion for music and remarkable gift of sound with her community and fans. Known by her stage name, Shena Samone, her versatile musical path has taken her on an exceptionally diverse journey including lead and background vocalist, writer, and collaborator on many projects with producers, local and national artists. Her electrifying stage performances are accompanied by a variety of popular genres including R&B, House, Pop, Jazz, and Reggae.
A pioneer at heart, Shena Samone established her own band called Smokey and the Angels where she performed as the lead vocalist and managed the group as they traveled across the Tampa Bay area and beyond, performing for various audiences. Recently, Shena Samone decided to expand her career by launching as a solo music artist and brand and is excited to share her new music as well as her collaborations currently in the works with other artists and producers. Early on, Shena Samone began her music journey singing and performing in youth choruses, participating in the high school marching band, and later on, auditioning for American Idol, America’s Got Talent and the Pussycat Dolls. She has advanced her musical pursuits with a degree in Music Technology and is pursuing another degree in Music Therapy.
Now that she has launched into her own individual artistry, as a solo artist, Shena Samone arrives on the music scene with much ferocity and focus. Her desire is to touch people with her voice and talents, and help pave the way for aspiring artists who are also in pursuit of their own musical journey.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Heck no, you sacrifice, a lot. Sleep, finances to promote, even at times relationships/friendships. The major struggle that I have found for not only myself but other local artists is support from your own city.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer, songwriter. I now have created my own rum (yes liquor) to go along with each one of the tracks that I have released. I am known for my authenticity and openness to talk about, sing about things that are normally deemed as taboo. I am proud of just being able to place my vulnerability through my music and help to hopefully heal those while doing so, what sets me apart is, I am not afraid to take those risks vocally, I will push myself creatively and think outside of the box. Example having my own rum as merch.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
To continue to create, and reinvent yourself so that you can continue to reach your fans and bring them content even if the world shut down a bit.
