Rising Stars: Meet Sean Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Foster.

Hi Sean, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, first, my name is Sean Foster. I am from a small city called Ypsilanti, MI which is 30 mins outside of Detroit, MI. I spent majority of my life living in Ypsilanti, honing in on my skillsets. I started cutting hair when I was 16 years old. In high school, I used to cut my friend’s and teammate’s hair. This journey all started when I was going to get a regular haircut and my barber tripped his price on the cuts. That key moment started my intuition into cutting my own hair. On the path of mastering a self-cut, I would branch out and bless others as well with haircuts. This skill stayed with me as I proceeded to college. There is where I took to the next level into charging everyone for the haircuts. It become a great way for keeping pocket money, gas money and grocery money.

Although in college I was a student-athlete first, I always kept my entrepreneurial spirit in tack and made sure I got the money at all times. My skillset started to build a following and demand for great haircuts. When I transferred to my hometown college (E.M.U), things started to excel in a larger rate for me. I would travel to dorms and or apartments to supply the haircuts. Once I graduated from college, I had to figure things out rapidly. I didn’t want to go in the 9-5 realm of workforce due to the fact of being burnt out from previous jobs in the past. So I quit the job I was at an went to work at the local barbershop I knew about from college. For five years, I delivered high-quality haircuts and excellent service to the people. I started to outgrow my environment and deeply sought out for a higher level of expansion. I came real close into getting my own shop in another thriving city not to far from my hometown, but I chose otherwise.

In the midst of deciding what the next step was, I decided to move and take my talents to Florida. Careful and detail research has landed me here in Tampa, where I feel this was the best decision for exponential growth and an abundance of success. Things were rough in the beginning but who could’ve planned for a pandemic to breakout six months into living a new lifestyle. Needless to say, I graduated barber school within a year back in 2020. I built a great relationship with a fellow classmate who gave me an alley-oop into working at his brother’s shop “Exotic Cutz” barbershop. Things have been going great and I even had a few chances to speak with the students back at my barber school I graduated from. I know it was long, but there is my short/long story.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The pandemic most definitely was a mean curveball, But I managed to come out of it a better person. Even before that, I had a great plan of what I thought would happen from the planning I did prior to moving to Tampa. I had to go to barber school because the shop owners couldn’t take the risk of me working there without proper licensing. That pushed everything back and made me worry a lot due to the fact of not being to work and make money. Other than that just normal human struggles we all encounter with, walking a singular path called life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am “Sean Foster The Barber” and I cut hair for a living at the moment. I specialize in being a personal image consultant by way of clippers. I know how to put the haircut on the client and make sure its the best look for them at all times. I’m known for my passionate detail and top notch customer service. The haircut isn’t right until the clients tells me that it is. Every client is treated the same and is always blessed with a high quality haircut, I’m most proud of the growth I’ve have done within the past 12 months. It has transcended me into a whole different level of expertise, The continuous strive for betterment is the drive I have used to propel myself into greatness. What sets me apart is that you will never find another person like me anywhere and my tract record speaks for it.

What makes you happy?
Laughter and joy with others and for others. I won’t go into the material details but instead, the soulful and heartfelt moments you have in life is what brings happiness. Materials have an expiration and it’s ever-changing. True happiness is the key life and prosperity.
