Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Nelson.
Rachael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In high school, I had the opportunity to shadow a speech-language pathologist (SLP) working with a child that was non-verbal. During that session, the child utilized their first word! It was incredible to see him light up when he realized that he was able to communicate. After watching his reaction, I decided to become an SLP. I am passionate about helping children and empowering them to communicate! That is why I have made it my mission to help children find their voice.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business was not an easy task. There are always bumps in the road and challenges to overcome. A few of the challenges I faced were to adapt, lean in, and learn all the business aspects of private practice. It has been a learning curve every step of the way.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Find My Voice Therapy Services is a mobile practice where therapy is offered in-home, at daycares/schools, and virtually. I specialize in evaluating and providing therapy to children from birth to 18 with articulation disorders, language delays/disorders, pragmatic disorders, and feeding disorders.
At my prior facilities, I realized there were limited opportunities to train the caregivers and educators that a child interacts with throughout the day. What makes my company different is I train all the caregivers and educators in my client’s daily life and empower them to feel confident implementing evidence-based strategies in their daily routines. This increases opportunities for skill development, provides practice with peers, is convenient for parents, and promotes collaboration among all adults in the child’s life.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are so many different opportunities to collaborate in the community. One example would be to provide teacher training classes and free screenings to local schools and daycares. I believe having teachers trained in the basics of language development is another great way to help the child.
I am always open to collaborating with anyone that works with children and would love to continue to build my network with other local therapists and schools. People can work with me by scheduling screenings, evaluations, therapy sessions, parent coaching sessions, teacher training sessions, and parent training sessions. I am really looking forward to working with the community!
