
Today we’d like to introduce you to Marialuisa Curran.
Hi Marialuisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have loved the world of media and marketing my entire life – from being an editor on my high school paper to leading a PR club in college. I started my career in agencies and really enjoyed working with different clients from all walks of life. I would be helping create an ad to getting a client on the news. I then took a position with the local PBS station and managed black-tie galas, along with other events and communication projects. It was so rewarding working with volunteers and helping broadcast educational programming. It was a dream for me to work at a television station so I was able to see the ins and outs of production while learning about the business operations side of a nonprofit. I then spent a great deal of time in the healthcare and technology marketing and PR world, entered into the corporate setting, and slowly realized that my heart was with the smaller agency life.
I started mezmRISE, LLC in 2019 – a full-service marketing firm that specializes in strategic planning and management for organizations large and small. We work with startups to global corporations mostly in the B2B space. We step in as fractional marketing executives, ready to lead teams that need direction or to fill temporary gaps in the department. We help plan strategic “Marketing Maps” that help guide organizations through sales enablement initiatives, promotional activities, content strategies, and marketing automation implementations. We have helped companies from building their brand to building their pipelines. Our motto is to captivate audiences and grow sales.
In addition to marketing services, we own real estate. We own Broadway Oaks Apartments in downtown Dunedin. It’s this adorably cozy rental community just two blocks away from Main Street, the Pinellas Trails, the water, and downtown parks. We are underway on building two more units on the property and look forward to growing this side of the business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road – in all transparency, our growth went much slower than I intended and hoped but for good reason: we welcomed our daughter into the world in late December 2018 and our son in November 2020. They have been the true joy and light in our lives. At times, it felt like I had 3 babies – my business and my children! Slowly but surely, we all got into a great routine and found a way to preserve finding the ability to enjoy quality time together while also chasing our professional passions.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
mezmRISE, LLC – or “mezmRISE marketing” is a full-service firm. We have four main service areas: building a “Marketing Map,” managing the marketing team or projects, consulting, or project-based execution. Our Marketing Maps are comprehensive strategic plans that include all the marketing initiatives needed to meet business goals. These Marketing Maps could be in the form of a content strategy plan, an email marketing workflow, a sales communication plan, or all of the above. Our marketing management is the fractional executive or manager gap-filler. We either bring those Marketing Maps to fruition with a dedicated marketing director guiding and pulling all the strings or we step in to help organizations as interim marketing managers bring their current marketing plans to life. As consultants, we offer expert guidance or fresh ideas when coaching is needed more than hands-on execution. For project-based assignments, we start and finish specific projects from creating a website or creating a campaign plan to designing a logo or writing a series of blogs. Marketing has so many moving parts: social media management, PR, advertising, SEO/PPC, sales support, email marketing, automation, website design, graphic design, branding, etc., etc. – we strategically bring it all together to captivate audiences and grow sales.
We specialize in general marketing and typically work for professional service sectors or B2B industries (financial services, operations or HR services, and marketing services). We have many clients in the healthcare, technology, engineering, or science space. We work with startups, solopreneurs, or global corporations.
What sets us apart is that we are the creative business team that joins your team as if we were there all along. We work so well with our clients that it’s like we have multiple teams that we are a part of. We have the “creative-business minds” on our team – we take the otherwise dry industry and bring sparks to campaigns that lead to sales growth. We think creatively but apply it to the business sense. This is what I am most proud of brand-wise. We can think about results methodically but also spice it up with fresh ideas!
Any big plans?
We are looking forward to growing our team so we can service additional large accounts. We plan to continue hiring more remote marketing managers in contract positions.
We also plan on targeting more engineering companies. We’ve had a lot of success in the healthcare, technology, science, and engineering industries and believe this is where we will continue to grow.
Additionally, there is a sales and marketing software concept that is very much in the infancy phase that we will look into developing further!
In the real estate and development department – we plan to build two additional units at Broadway Oaks Apartments while seeing what other renovations and real estate opportunities exist.
