Meet David Habib of Yo Mama’s Foods

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Habib.

Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I was always inspired by my mother’s ability to bring people of all cultures and backgrounds around the table through the platform of healthy and delicious food. As a first generation American, I never understood the importance of my roots until I got older and realized the power of culture and food in our society. The connections and universal language that all people share around food is what motivates myself and our team everyday. Especially in today’s trying times, food is a connector and unifier for all people. It is our mission and joy to help people save time by offering delicious and time-saving packaged goods. Welcome to Yo Mama’s Foods! Our company is on a mission to bring the world back to the table through healthy and delicious foods. If it’s not an ingredient your mom has in her kitchen, it doesn’t go into our products – no gums, fillers, preservatives and colors. Since our start on Mother’s Day 2017, we have grown to over 6,000 retail stores nationwide.

Focusing on three major categories in the fast moving consumables bucket of health foods, our team crafts delicious and healthy pasta sauces, salad dressings, and premium oils. Our approach is simple – “Ingredients you can pronounce, flavor you can taste.” We started small and have grow to a 26,000 square foot warehouse here in Clearwater. Retailers: #1 best selling pasta sauce company on Amazon and #1 in Keto Foods Available in retailers such as Whole Foods, Publix, Target, Giant, HEB, Sprouts, Central Market, Lucky’s Market, Lowes Foods, Amazon, and – 6,000+ retail stores.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like every business, we are challenged everyday with numerous new problems. As you scale, your problems of last year area piece of cake compared to your new problems. Some of our struggles in the early days were finding the right manufacturing partners who would accommodate our labor intensive items that don’t contain preservatives. Some of our other struggles were space and machinery. We used to load trucks from a 300 square foot storage unit, until we outgrew that and moved our “headquarters” to a 3,000 square foot old professional office. No forklifts, no ramps. So much of our days were spent loading and unloading trucks by hand instead of selling and growing the business. That led us to begin our search for a warehouse that could accommodate growth and a forklift, leading us to Eldridge Street in Clearwater. We found an abandoned and old warehouse that was perfect for our needs. 21 banks rejected me for a loan and finally, Hancock Whitney in Largo took a chance on our business and our mission.
