Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Welch.
Hi Morgan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started doing art when I was four years old. I was in art school and classes all through grade school and graduated with a bachelor’s of studio art degree. I have been professionally selling my own art since 2015. I have shown my work all over Tampa and St. Petersburg and working to expand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With everything comes much work. It was hard starting out but once I got better at my craft, worked on creating items that would bring in profit which became easier.
In the beginning, I had trouble selling paintings. People loved my work but weren’t buying.
I learned to study what my audience was and started creating work that my audience would like which started putting me on the map for several events.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I paint and specialize in acrylic and oil painting.
I’m known for painting and highlighting the beauty of African Americans specifically women. I am proud of being able to show them in different lights and celebrating their beauty.
What sets me apart from others is my surrealism style. I’m able to showcase my figures without being too realistic
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see myself expanding to an online market and traveling to showcase my artwork over the United States. The biggest trend is online shopping and I see my industry becoming more important and a bigger opportunity to sell online.
