Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Peters.
Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’ve worked in fashion for over 20 years. I went to College at Philadelphia Textiles.
I soon moved downtown and worked at the iconic Knit Wit Downtown. I followed my dreams to become a buyer for Bela Shehu and a coming fashion designer now known as Nino.
When I moved back to Tampa, I worked in many retail stores. I finally decided I needed a more creative outlet. I became intrigued with leather and started designing leather jewelry.
My creative passion then started using other materials, mixing leather with gold and silver to become more diverse and added value. I now also upcycle… I find vintage jewelry and create interesting and unique one-of-a-kind pieces. I hand sew each piece to a piece of raw leather.
Every piece has a story, that’s your truth… Onyxandwolf.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Persistence and hard work take alot of time and interest. You have to make a name and brand for yourself before people trust you to buy your product.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My whole life I knew I was an artist. Having raw talent is not always enough. I had to believe in myself, I had to practice and tap into my creative channels.
Loving what I do helps, Finding the strength to follow through is the key. The more you create the stronger your channel becomes.
When we had the pop art photoshoot I knew I wasn’t just creating jewelry, I was creating art.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Investing in a good photographer for life and product shots. That is when people really started to notice the brand Onyxandwolf.
