Meet Jacky Costello

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacky Costello.

Jacky, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I, Jacky Costello, owner of Custom Cleanups, started my company in 2014, I had one mission in mind- helping people through delivery of trustworthy, detail-oriented, and personable residential cleaning services. Originally from Germany, I spent much of my early professional life providing customer service and administrative support within the hospitality and service industries. Through these experiences, I learned to listen to customers and respond with attention to detail and commitment to excellence. Today, I carry the same values to Custom Cleanups. Our team understands the importance of listening to your needs and then surpassing your expectations. I work where I live in the Tampa Bay area with my husband and son. When I’m not serving Custom Cleanup’s customers, I love being part of our supportive and active community and embarking on family adventures like traveling and camping.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a business owner isn’t always easy. You carry a lot of responsibility and unless you learn how to set boundaries, you can easily work 24/7. Finding the perfect work/life balance is something I have to work on every day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My book, How Far I Have Risen: Coming Clean About Cancer, God and My American Dream (published Feb. 24, 2020) was written to inspire others, especially those who are battling cancer. My own ordeal led me to become one of 1,200 cleaning partners throughout the country who are part of the nonprofit organization Cleaning for a Reason and provide free cleaning services to anyone with the disease. “I wrote my book to share my story in the hope of being helpful to people with cancer and other challenges, especially women, and to encourage them to keep their faith in God, to keep pushing and never give up,” “It’s an inspirational, motivational story.”

In 2013, I learned I had cervical cancer, which, fortunately, the doctors were able to remove entirely. But the realization that I could lose everything took a huge toll on me – both mentally and physically.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
This is a great community. Without the people in this area, my business would not be what it is today. We give a lot to this community but we also get a lot of support in return which I am very grateful for.
