Inspiring Conversations with Glen and Laura Keith of Latte Vino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glen and Laura Keith.

Glen and Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We are originally from Canada, a Paramedic, and a Registered Nurse, with a combined 21 years of emergency medicine. We have a passion for coffee and wine and were looking to begin a new adventure. We wanted to start our business with the goal of being more present for our two toddlers. The life of two shift workers made it difficult to spend quality time together. With the effort put into our new business we are hoping that we can have more flexibility in our personal lives.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have definitely been some hurdles, the biggest being some unexpected expenses when we started. This caused some setbacks and stress that we weren’t accounting for. Everyone in the community has been fantastic though; we’re very lucky to already have customers who come in and support our business on a weekly basis.

Staffing has been an obstacle, we currently have great staff, but we know this is a business with high turnover.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We are a Café & Wine Bar that serves premium small-batch coffee. We always source what we can locally and try to support other small businesses where we can. Our gluten-free and vegan baked goods are from Hillbilly Farms Bakery, and then our non-gluten-free items are sourced through The Kake Shoppe; we get multiple shipments a week from both businesses. Knowing there is a need for Gluten Free options, we have also incorporated gluten-free bread as an option for all our sandwiches, and we also offer gluten-free crackers with our Charcuterie Boards.

All our menu items are made to order; this allows us to give you quality food that isn’t packed with preservatives. Our Egg and Ham Breakfast Sandwich, for example, are pure egg whites, cheddar cheese, ham, and an English muffin. Nothing extra added.

We have a variety of sharing plates; our Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Board is great for sharing over coffee or wine. We have a regular-sized Charcuterie Board that feeds 2-3 people, but we also have an extra-large board that we offer when hosting events.

We are most known for our flavored and specialty lattes; we have over 20 options for just these alone. We’re proud to offer PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans for our coffees and espresso. Our regular coffee is has a nutty aroma, full-bodied flavor, and a crisp, clean finish with every sip.

With our healthcare backgrounds, we’re very particular about the cleanliness of our business. This is very important to us.

We won’t sacrifice quality or care at Latte Vino. If we wouldn’t eat it ourselves, we certainly wouldn’t serve it.

We have incorporated a variety of wines and hope to increase this over time. We’re set apart from many businesses as we are not only a space to grab your morning beverage, but we’re also a comfortable place to set up at all day to work, study, meet up with friends, or have a date. We’re one of the only spaces we’ve seen people split a bottle of wine and a Charcuterie board at while having a study session. There is almost always a reason to meet up at Latte Vino. We have also hosted a variety of parties and events. We have had live music the past few weekends and hope to increase this in the future. We would love to host some bridal showers and bachelorette parties.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to us is the quality of our products. We have worked very hard to provide premium ingredients and provide consistency. We genuinely want people to have a great time and enjoy what they order. We’re not just looking for a sale; we’re looking to have customers who love what we offer and who want to come back because they like what they see. We’re always striving to better ourselves and our products.
