Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Martinez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So, I have always had this “kid/nerdy” side of me that I never actually (as an adult) never let go but just kind of stored it away. I have always had an infatuation with toys and collectibles that I grew up with (and old-school video games as well). Pretty much anything that was nostalgic to me. I was born in 1987 so I was raised in the 90s and I believe (wholeheartedly) that this is the best era EVER! I loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Power Rangers, X-Men, Spider-Man, Pokémon, DragonBall Z, I mean the list goes on and on. Instead of throwing these things away as a teenager/young adult, I stored them up and put them away as I began my adult life. Fast forward to 2018. My mother bought me a Raphael figure from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Christmas and I was just in awe. I remember just holding the figure and looking at it for a good 10 minutes and thinking about the movie and cartoons and how easy life was. The memories began flooding in and I just remember saying, “Man, there is Nothing Like Nostalgia.” So, from there I began to join Facebook groups for adult collectors, I brought all my video game systems and started collecting modern and retro toys and figures as a hobby again. In 2020, during the pandemic, I decided that I wanted to make this a household name for collectors, hobbyists, and people who are just as infatuated with nostalgia. During the beginning of the pandemic, I used it as a scapegoat to deal with the reality of what was happening with COVID 19. During this time, I got very involved with collecting and reselling old, vintage, modern, and new collectibles and toys. Come to find out, most of these hobbyists and collectors were either older than me or my age. At that point, I knew I had something and it just confirmed for me that I was not the only person that felt like this about nostalgia. So, towards the end of 2020, I decided to register the name and make it a business. The best choice that I ever made! From there, I started posting news, making content, and doing podcasts. My goal is to make Nothing Like Nostalgia a household name and show people that nostalgia is different for everybody. It can be a taste from your childhood, some type of fashion from the 70s or 80s, a comic, a film, any and everything that just takes you down to that nostalgic memory and puts you in a state of mind where things were completely different and you were in a happy place. Putting you in this state of mind can help you battle with mental struggles and just our day-to-day with the new normal as we all face the pandemic. I want people to be happy, comfortable, and most of all, themselves. Regardless of judgment or how it may appear. When people see Nothing Like Nostalgia, I want to see that McDonald’s arch on your face. To see, taste, hear, watch, touch, smell or just have that feeling and say “Man, there is Nothing Like Nostalgia!”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. There have been several times I questioned myself and said if this was even a good decision to begin with. But I know the mission here and the overall goal. I constantly pray for the patience to get there and remind myself to keep on doing what you are doing. Most people fail because of the lack patience and they want it overnight. Overnight can be 5-7 years or even 15 years. But I know that I have to remain patient and do the best I can as I work towards my mission and end goal with Nothing Like Nostalgia.

Nothing Like Nostalgia was registered with the state of Florida in 2020. There are no services that I offer but what I do offer is feelings and memories and that is all FREE! I do resale online on platforms such as eBay, Mercari, and the Facebook marketplace at the moment. We are working on releasing an exclusive online store where you can find vintage, modern and retro collectibles.
One of the things I’m most proud of is actually doing it! I mean I always questioned before I registered as a business-like “What are you going to do?” I’ve literally been taking it day by day with a plan in motion to make Nothing Like Nostalgia a household name. As we grow, I’ve been adding more content on more platforms, and I am also teaching and giving advice on how you can get the best deals on collectibles and hunting for these items.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Communities are important. I mean I decided to register in the prime of COVID 19. This was a challenge in itself but an easy decision for me. Since most physical locations were closed or just the fear of being around people, humans have decided to spend much more time online and I noticed especially in just communities that interested them. People are using these sources and outlets to either get these same feelings or even for services. I mean, sales of toys, goods and basic necessities spiked during this time. With all the groups I was involved in, I happen to witness it. People went elsewhere and forced businesses to go to these outlets as well. The biggest lesson I learned is how to adapt and change and be 150% for the customers.
