Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Chacon.
Hi Christopher, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Honduras and moved to the United States when I was 11 years old. As a kid, I was always really creative and interested in entrepreneurship; thanks to both my parents who had previously run their own businesses, I channeled this into drawing portraits for people and eventually raising money to enter a fine arts drawing competition when I was 15, I made it to nationals, and even though I didn’t win, it taught me that I can truly achieve anything I put my heart and mind into.
Throughout high school, I explored my creativity through various avenues like dancing, singing, songwriting, graphic design, and music production, which funded a lot of my creative endeavors. I even bought my first camera to take my own photos and shoot music videos as a recording artist. Eventually, I realized that photography and filmmaking were my true passions.
In 2019, I was working two full-time jobs as a marketing manager for a not-for-profit organization and a content creator and student engagement coordinator for the IMG Academy. Even after working long hours at two full-time jobs, I would spend my weekends practicing my photography and filmmaking skills, driven by a passion for creating beautiful and compelling content. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was furloughed from one job and had to work from home for the other, leaving me with plenty of time to focus on creating content. That’s when I fell deeply in love with it. I’d even say it was really what kept me sane and going through quarantine.
Once I returned to the office and the world started moving again, I knew I had to make a choice. I had this overwhelming feeling like I had a fire inside of me, I needed to keep creating content, and I couldn’t ignore it. So, in the Summer of 2020, I quit both my full-time jobs to pursue my passions full-time and started my own company, Modernwndr. It was a nerve-wracking decision, but my family and friends were supportive of me.
Thanks to my background as an artist and my experience working as a marketing manager for a not-for-profit organization and a sports academy, I understood social media and the kind of content that does well. I also learned the importance of having good systems and processes to maximize content and strategy for growth. This knowledge has been invaluable for our clients at Modernwndr.
Today, Modernwndr is a content creation and marketing strategy company, and I’m running it with the help of our talented photographer and social media manager, Kayla Avirett (@kdacreative). We offer a simple solution to businesses by creating impactful, eye-catching creative content and taking care of all their social media needs, from content distribution to guiding them through the crazy social media world. It allows business owners to focus on the bigger tasks while we take care of their digital marketing needs.
In addition to our social media services, we also operate as a film production company. Our team specializes in creating compelling brand advertisements and TV commercials that capture the essence of a company’s story and showcase it in a way that truly does it justice. Whether it’s crafting a visually stunning campaign or developing a heartfelt narrative that resonates with audiences, we’re dedicated to helping businesses bring their visions to life through the power of film and photography.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When I started doing this there was no roadmap or formula to it, I didn’t really have anyone to guide me and teach me how to navigate owning and running a creative business, so I had to forge my own path and build something from scratch. It hasn’t always been easy, and I’ve faced my fair share of struggles along the way. One of the biggest struggles I faced early on was trying to find my niche and standing out in a very saturated market. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out what services to offer and how to differentiate myself from other agencies, so I tried everything and anything very early on to find what I enjoyed most and where my strengths lie.
Another struggle was learning how to manage a growing business, especially when it came to managing clients and their expectations. Balancing multiple projects and deadlines while still maintaining the quality of our work was a challenge, but it also taught me valuable lessons in time management and communication, as well as the importance of having good systems and processes.
Lastly, the ongoing challenge has been keeping up with the constantly evolving landscape of social media and digital marketing. Staying up to date with new trends and algorithms while also trying to create innovative and effective strategies for our clients requires a lot of time and effort, but it’s also what makes this industry so exciting and dynamic. As with any entrepreneurial journey, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. But I’ve never let those obstacles stop me. In fact, the struggle of wearing many hats within my own business is what has helped me understand and empathize with other small business owners, enabling me to provide the best possible support for their businesses.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I was a kid, my parents used to own a sort of “Blockbuster” style business in Honduras; it was one of a kind back then. We had every kind of movie you could imagine, so I would watch all of them in every genre, which made me truly fall in love with cinema and really influenced my love today for filmmaking; my dad and I use to also go to the movies every Tuesday and spend the whole day watching all the new releases and talking about them after, analyzing what we loved and what could’ve been better.
This early love for film and storytelling has guided me on my journey to owning my own creative business. It has helped me develop a unique perspective and approach to creating content that resonates with audiences.
