Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Floyd.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As much as I fought it growing up, I have always been a very creative person. I attended a performing arts elementary school where I was blessed to have the opportunity to dabble in a ton of the arts from theatre to oil painting at a young age. I can still hear my mom telling me in the kitchen that I should pursue a career in graphic design as I ate a bowl of Cheerios before school. However, my favorite class was always math and I was obsessed with the ocean on a one-track path to study oceanography.
When I got to college, attending Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, I figured out early on that the ocean and fishing were more of a passion than a career for me. I had a few teammates on my college track team that guided me towards the business and communications route. After a few courses, I wanted to become an ESPN reporter but quickly learned I was better behind the camera. Thus, my love for public relations began.
I worked in the communications department as an event media assistant for the San Antonio Spurs then the Outback Bowl for a seasonal contract once I moved back to Tampa. Afterward, I was given the opportunity to work for a public relations agency. Coming from a sports background, it was the perfect match because agency life is very quick-paced. I was working on several different client accounts at once from graphic design and social media management to earning regional public relations opportunities. I am a people person at heart and thrive on bringing fresh perspectives to clients’ new or existing strategies.
In May of this year, I decided to resign from my agency and become a public relations and digital marketing freelancer. To be fully transparent, I didn’t know what was in store for me when I left my agency. I was on the hunt for a job that provided me with the unlimited flexibility I desired, as I fish a ton with my husband and my family is located all over the United States. I took a big leap of faith into the unknown. After lots of prayers and chats with local businesswomen who I looked up to, Bais Creative & Public Relations was created.
I launched Bais in June of this year and I haven’t looked back. I figured there was no better time than the present to start my company as I hope to build a small team of three or four by the end of 2022.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Leaving an agency that felt like family was extremely hard and emotionally draining for me, even when I knew I was making the right decision. However, once I was able to switch my brain over to building my own brand, it’s an incredible feeling knowing that every day, every minute, you are working to create something that is your own.
Since launching Bais, I have been met with such an overwhelming amount of support. There are definitely days where the imposter syndrome is still high, but those days seem to be less and less with each passing month and have only pushed me to learn and soak in even more information. I also remind myself on a constant basis that if my company fails, I am not a failure. And I oddly find a lot of comfort in that.
It’s one thing to be great at what you do, but running a business is a completely different ballgame. Every day a new challenge arises, but that is what makes it so exciting. I think as an entrepreneur that constant feeling of “what’s next?” can either feel suffocating or motivating. For me, I find an “entrepreneur high” in the feeling of the unknown.
My biggest current struggle has been the rate at which I have seen client interest. While it’s a very positive thing, I definitely wasn’t prepared for it so quickly. So now I am trying to decide how I want to structure my team as I continue to grow.
We’ve been impressed with Bais Creative & Public Relations, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When launching Bais, I had a desire to merge my passion for helping entrepreneurs grow their brands online with my expertise and experience in the communications industry. I believe that no public relations plan is one-size-fits-all, and that is what makes my job so fun as every brand has a unique story to tell. While traditional media such as press releases and media alerts have their perfect place and time, the press and social media landscape is constantly evolving. And I’m here for it. It keeps me on my toes and it will keep my client’s content strategies fresh. I always tell clients to think of me as their professional hype woman for organic growth.
I have worked with business owners and marketing departments across the entire United States and specialize in partnering with direct-to-consumer food, wellness and sports brands to share their stories. By elevating your brand’s online presence, we are able to lay the foundation for successful media outreach and earn media coverage that creates both impact and opportunity.
I know it’s a very overhyped word at the moment but authenticity is truly at the heart of everything I do. From helping clients build genuine relationships with their target audiences to how I operate my company, I have found this to be key to inspiring brands to set and achieve their goals.
What does success mean to you?
This is a tough one. To me, success is achieving those actionable goals that you set for yourself. And learning that it isn’t always about the destination of the goal, but sometimes the journey it took to get there can be just as important – if not more.
