Inspiring Conversations with Alexandra Barker of A. Rose Gallery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Barker.

Hi Alexandra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Drawing has been my passion since I was a child, but it wasn’t until last summer did I start taking it and myself more seriously. I used to draw fan art or stipple work, which I both enjoyed doing, but I didn’t feel as if my heart was truly in either. The drawing began to feel like a chore for a social media presence and I eventually stopped for over a year. After losing my job to COVID last March, I had a rough couple of months in isolation until one night I began drawing again and just couldn’t stop! That’s how my style evolved into its current colorful escape, outlining the pleasures that can be found in solitude all the while spreading self-love and body positivity because that’s what is most important!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Creating isn’t always easy, there’s art block and sometimes just a lack of motivation. I’ve struggled with all of the above at times, and not to mention slow weeks, while also running a small business. They say the road to success is never an easy one, but it’s never impossible! It’s important to keep pushing for what you want in the end.

As you know, we’re big fans of A. Rose Gallery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in digital design focusing on self-love and body positivity. All of my work contains affirmations, as well as realistic body references with a pop of color. I’m known for my unique waterproof stickers and keychains, and I’ve recently added handmade apparel to my collection, too! I have participated in two art galleries, three local vendors’ markets and sold over 150 items in the past year and a half. I couldn’t be more proud of how my small business has grown, and am looking forward to what the future has in store for me!

Any big plans?
I am planning on launching more products to my apparel collection soon, as well as participating in another gallery showing this Fall!
