Exploring Life & Business with OK! Transmit, Art + Technology Meetup

Today we’d like to introduce you to OK! Transmit, Art + Technology Meetup. Them and their team share their story with us below:

OK! TRANSMIT is a diverse art collective and community exploring new media art and technology, based in South Saint Pete, Florida. Founded in July 2018 by Mikhail and Olivia Mansion through a St. Pete Arts Alliance grant and Sponsorship from the Duncan McClellan Art Gallery. OK! Transmit has been creating a place and space for local Tampa Bay and St. Pete artists to get together and share their practice, thoughts, and experiences in art + tech. We bring this creative community together in order to share innovative ideas and new media works through talks, presentations, workshops, and experimental performances.

All in all, OK! Transmit seeks to engage in cross-disciplinary art and tech culture and practice. Some of the topics and interests include: Creative Coding; Algorithmic & Generative Art; Machine Learning; Bio Art; Robotic & Kinetic Art; Interactive Media Installations; Experimental Light & Sound; Experimental Music & Sound; Film & Animation; AR/VR & Game Art; as well as Traditional Crafts Transformed.

Our meetup is for anyone seeking to engage in cross-disciplinary art and technology culture and practice. We aim to foster an inclusive and diverse community of inventors, artists, technologists and researchers. Most recently, OK! Transmit, composed of Gregg Perkins, Mikhail Mansion, James Curran and Olivia Mansion, collaborated to create Overflow a generative, kinetic sound sculpture for the Skyway 20/21 show at the Ringling Museum of Art.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since 2018 we’ve hosted monthly in-person meetups and workshops. As with many organizations, we paused our in-person events and pivoted to virtual meetups during the pandemic. We’re looking forward to reconvening our in-person meetups, artist talks, performances, and workshops.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At OK! Transmit we host artist talks and art+technology workshops. Our artist talks help demystify artist practices and lifestyle.

Some of the notable artists we’ve hosted include Duncan McClellan, Sabrina Verhage, Santiago Echeverry, Kenny Jensen, James Curran, and more!

We have art+tech meetups in the plans, and hope to see you then.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
We’re grateful for the St. Pete Arts Alliance who gave us an artist grant which allowed us to get our start. We also have immense gratitude for Duncan McClellan, Suncoast Developers Guild, Station House, The University of Tampa, Dali Museum and the Ringling Museum for hosting OK! Transmit meetups and showcasing work by our group. A big thank you and shoutout to the artists, technologists, and meetup members who have attended and contributed to our mission of spreading the word about the special convergence of art and technology.
