Exploring Life & Business with Danielle McKnight-Phillips of ADR Decor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle McKnight-Phillips.

Danielle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I was young, I have always had an interest in weddings and special events. I would watch the WE “Platinum Weddings” and “David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding” tv shows and couldn’t get enough of the episodes for inspiration. When I became older, I would help a couple of my friends plan and setup up their weddings and enjoyed every moment of it. Also, my dad later remarried and loved helping with the wedding decor details. A few years later I tried to get into Weddings when Angelina, of The Apostolic Wife, let me help setup her weddings. Shortly thereafter I started out on my own in decorating weddings and providing decor rentals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Trying to get your name out there in the wedding industry as a new business, can have its obstacles. Having vendors/venues give you a chance to work with them is essential, and can be somewhat challenging. Through it all you have to remain persistent and not be discouraged by any setbacks. Also, due to the pandemic much like many industries throughout the country. The Wedding and Special Events Industry has been hit pretty hard. Having a large number of cancellations and postponements have been tough but thinking outside the box and being creative about making someone’s day special gives 2021 a promising outlook.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
ADR Decor is a curated business that helps create memorable experiences for our clients. We provide day of coordinating as well as candlelight decor for events and weddings. With our Day of Coordinating we tie up any loose ends and button up all the final details to ensure your special day goes smoothly. We also carry a large quantity and variety of curated pieces. Offering pieces such as gold antique candle holders, terrariums, tapered candle holders, and long stemmed glasses just to name a few. If you want lots of candlelight decor, we can help design that for you whether if it’s to line the staircase, along the aisle, or in front of the sweetheart table. While candlelit decor offers a timeless classic touch and is a personal favorite, our goal is to bring to life the vision and theme of each client’s individual uniqueness. Making people’s dreams come true is my dream come true, Whether we’re going bohemian, rustic, or tropical we aim to make it a A Day Remembered for you and all your family and friends.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I would say it was performing at my first dance recital at age four. I was supposed to go out with my dance group that I had been practicing all year with but got nervous when I saw the audience and turned around. My mom went to the back and encouraged me that I needed to go out there and finish what I started. There was a second group that had been practicing the same routine as us and I went back out with them and finished the routine. I will forever remember that and glad to this day that she encouraged me to go back out there.
