Conversations with William Boyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Boyer.

Hi William, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was a manager for McDonald’s once upon a time. Worked as an efficiency manager cleaning up locations and getting them back on track to start showing a profit. After ten years in fast food, I decided to become a truck driver as an owner operator fuel cost drove me out of the industry along with obesity and diabetes, I spent roughly a year out of work. My father’s passing put me and my wife in a different mindset and I was left about 25000 dollars to which I started my own business in residential property maintenance. All the while, my mom was taking care of the books for a family friend by the name of Trae Stokes. I was around him from the age of a young child. He was a master carpenter by trade that the economy took a big toll on his business as well so he decided to start doing something so far from his field but as an outdoorsman knew he could do but not knowing how it would go commercially. The business served well under him and I was around it learning from time to time. But I of course had my own business to run now known as Dico Lawn Maintenance doing commercial and residential accounts from the smallest house to the largest like Dillards/JC Penny even TD Bank we devise all sorts but about two years ago, the founder of Redneck Moonshine Jerky formerly Redneck Steak passed of a massive heart attack. The business was then left to his son Travis whom had no interest in investing more than he had to and allowed his then wife at the Time Jill to take the reins. This caused many problems with the silent owner Phil Hall as they were misappropriating funds all the while things were just getting worse and worse financially. Listening to my mom whom was partially employed by me and not getting paid through Redneck the business was set to close before even the hint of the Covid-19 outbreak thus almost closing the doors fortunately Phil had the ability to keep it running on a skeleton crew and our location in tact. Thus bringing us to a year and a half ago. My mother made mention that Phil had plans to close the warehouse and business so I was asked if I would become an investor and with my wife Heidi my children Laysha, Destiny, Angel, and Willie we have managed to promote the business work the shows cutting down on labor and maintain the talent currently cooking and bagging our product since this last year we have started to maintain the business with just its own earnings launching a website to fill orders far and wide getting little rest but the satisfaction of taking on a brand and rebranding it to be better with my direction we have started new products cut down on almost any and all waste in the way of Pup Kutz jerky for dogs scrap that previously unable to use is now smoked and dried and made into a chew we have expanded to steak Stickz something that was never even thought of before and now we are looking at slim Jim style snack sticks. Moonshine jerky was almost gone with the wind and has gone from emptying investor’s pockets to almost fully self sustainability in the matter of a year Heidi works to better our online presence as I work to keep up with the crowds on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Letting real people see what real people do. Without a script but keeping it light and funny.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Fighting the brand and the old ways of doing things, resistance to change was always a factor.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a manager/owner in one form or another all my life. My parents never taught me to follow but always be a leader or innovator.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I would have to say my mom was a single mom until I was 13 and her taking me to events all around the country for car buying and her role in Jaycees which probably assisted in my development.
