Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Fekete.
Hi Sharon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I had a long career of directing medical practices from NY to Tampa Bay before opening my first business, The Doctor Whisperer. I saw a pattern of how physicians were so incredible at saving lives but struggled to navigate through the business of medicine. Through no fault of their own, since they’re not taught business in medical school, doctors are best served taking care of us versus worrying about all the vital steps it takes to sustain a healthy business. I have coached hundreds of doctors on how to hire, market, and write their prescription for success. Today, I focus mainly on speaking to the masses at medical conferences and medical schools to prepare them for what lies ahead in business.
After years of referring business out to social media companies with little success for my clients, I opened an additional company 3 years ago, 13th Ave Media. A small boutique modern media company that can encourages growth not only to physicians but other businesses as well. I host (2) podcasts, The Doctor Whisperer and The Broken Road to Mental Health.
I released my first book in 2019 called, The Broken Road to Mental Health in Life and in Business. In addition to running business, my passion is to continue spreading the word to corporate about mental health in the workplace and mental health conferences. As a sober woman of 27 years, I can help shift the conversation about what a successful woman in business & life looks like after enduring tremendous adversity.
Absolutely nothing can ever happen in business without giving back to your community and raising other women up.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is a broken road for sure in life and in business. It was vital for me to tune out negativity and surround myself with people that wanted to build me up. I was told that my business name was childish by a physician, that I wasn’t a good writer, and so much more. I went on to write a book, help physicians from NY to Tampa, and to this day people smile when they say ‘The Doctor Whisperer.’ Unfortunately, there will be people out there that don’t want to see you succeed but that has always been my fuel.
This pandemic has obviously been a struggle for so many and I have felt the effects along with so many others. There are limited speaking engagements in a virtual world and businesses have been forced to cut marketing costs which affected my media company. It is certainly encouraging now to see the world opening back up again, I have high hopes for 2022.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Doctor Whisperer/13th Ave Media?
I have been whispering strategies to physicians for over 20 years & amplify businesses through the power of social media. Doctors thrive when they are doing want they love, helping others. It is best to focus on their passion and hire experts to encourage growth and culture. As a firm believer in advocating toward improved mental health, I published my book ‘The Broken Road to Mental Health, in Life & in Business’ on my 25th sober anniversary, August 11th, 2019. I speak at medical conferences about hospitality in healthcare, hiring a dream team, and branding. I also speak to corporations about mental health in the workplace & include my own previous struggles with addiction, depression, & the journey to overcome adversity. I host (2) podcasts, The Doctor Whisperer & The Broken Road to Mental Health.
I am most known to be a truth slayer, it is what separates me from others in business. I tell my clients the truth about their businesses so we can encourage a healthy & successful work environment. I’m like a business therapist, you have to be ready to do the work.
I am most proud of my book, The Broken Road to Mental Health. There is no greater feeling than knowing you can help someone else know they are not alone.
As a boss to many through the years in the medical industry, I can really help organizations impact mental health in the workplace. As a Director of Operations in the medical field for many years, I can also speak the language to the healthcare field and encourage growth through sharing proper hiring & marketing techniques. As a social media business owner, I can also help companies market in the year we live in.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The medical field will continue to grow towards more telehealth vs in-person visits. Marketing will continue to emerge in the digital world and businesses will have to learn all of the social media platforms that their clients live on. Mental health will continue to impact our workforce in negative ways until real conversations about the importance of a safe space to land are expressed in corporate.
