Community Highlights: Meet Nicki Tisch of K SoHo Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicki Tisch

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began at Paul Mitchell The School in Estero Florida where I graduated early out of their excelled program. There shortly after I was interviewed to be an assistant to a Redken Artist, Angie Simpson. She was what they considered “Elite”, to be elite you needed to make over six figures a year. I spent nine months assisting, learning and becoming her right hand. I then floated around building clientele in Naples Florida. I stepped away from the chair for about five months to do makeup with Christian Dior which ended due to Covid which brought me here to Tampa. I interviewed and was invited to work in a couple different salons but found Kensington Salon which now is K SoHo. I began working there which we were independent so I took it to social media to really build and hit my goals. The owner at the time decided to sell which led my father and I to owning. I’m now over eight years in the business, four years in Tampa, three years of owning the salon. I currently am now a certified color correction specialist and lived in color educator.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. In school I doubted myself quite often because I wasn’t exactly the typical cosmetologist they had there. Most of the other girls and educators were wearing full faces of makeup and hair always done. That wasn’t my thing, I didn’t want to focus on that. Shortly after graduating and allowing my work to push me to graduate and get licensed early I yet again struggled when realizing that assisting wasn’t a bad thing, it didn’t mean I failed. After some bad energy from managers in my first salon where I was building clientele rapidly i decided to finally go pursue makeup, I was burnt out. Covid allowed me to take a break. Then when moving to Tampa I was finally ready to get back to my passion, what I loved, hair. I really was driven and hustling towards all my personal and financial goals but six months into working here I found out the owner of the salon was looking to sell but that wasn’t a huge deal. I found out my grandfather suddenly passed away. He was my best friend and I was heart broken I lived far away and wasn’t able to be near him. I really isolated myself and had to remember he’d want me to be the best me at all times. I returned back down south to Naples frequently over the next year. Between working and driving back down to be with family I was always in my head. I spent as much time with my grandma before she too passed only a year and two months apart from her 60+ year partner. Since then I struggle with work life balance and am finding what’s best for me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The salon focuses on luxury and quality services. It is located on South Howard Ave next to Starbucks. I specialize in color correction and lived in color. My clientele typically comes in for color about two to three times a year. I feel as if what sets me apart from others is my ability to allow everyone to feel comfortable in my chair. I love being able to allow my clientele to feel like friends and be themselves. They are able to express feelings, emotions whether they’re personal or private. I am a provider of Redken and Formula 18/enjoy. Formula 18 is an all natural healing line with protein and moisture enhancing qualities. Truly some of the most amazing products I’ve ever worked with. I do offer a new client special and I always make priority for who ever. New clients will always receive $40 off their service.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I always offer a shadowing availability for new stylists or stylists in general. They can spend the day and learn behind the scenes as to what a typical day is. My instagram is always an amazing way to follow, interact and book appointments. @nicsbeautytouch_
