Check Out Michael Mota’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Mota

Hi Michael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Rhode Island to two LEGAL immigrant parents. From a young age, my parents taught my sister and I the value of hard work and how it’s the only way to be successful in this world. I graduated from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I was working towards a degree to become a school principal when my friend, who was running for Congress with my encouragement, asked me to manage his campaign. While he didn’t win, he came in second. My friend soon after founded MediaPeel, a full-service advertising and PR agency, and I was asked to come onboard as Vice President. I did this while finishing my degree and obtained a Master’s Degree in Administration from Providence College.

During my team at MediaPeel, I brought on a large client named Alex and Ani. In their first year, I took them from a million dollars in sales to nearly 75 million, and in order to take them higher I helped Alex and Ani acquire MediaPeel. Alex and Ani opened a new marketing branch entitled Seven Swords Media which advertised their brands. I took them to their highest point, and they employed over 1000 people with billions in sales.

I left Alex and Ani and Seven Swords to start my own marketing company named ATOM Media, which is approaching its 10th anniversary. Many clients that worked with me at ATOM I met through my work at Alex and Ani, such as The Smithsonian in Washington DC, Benjamin Moore, Paint Worldwide, and more.

Currently, my team at ATOM Media is focusing on our brands, including newly-launched Virtual365 (VirtualCons revamped) as well as our own Virtual Coin that can be used on our platforms. We’re constantly growing our portfolio through real estate and helping other businesses succeed.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Skyline at Waterplace, one of our businesses, was heavily impacted by the COVID pandemic. We had to quickly change gears from hosting large, in-person events to virtual, which is when Virtual365 was created. People can now attend incredible conventions and other events through their devices, keeping them safer from any infections and it gives the ability to those that couldn’t travel to attend.

For over a year, I have also been fighting to protect my name and brand after a reporter from the Boston Globe set out to defame me. She wrote over a dozen scathing articles about my career, and her lies heavily impacted my projects. With help from Peter Ticktin of The Ticktin Law Group, I am currently suing this reporter and the Boston Globe to stop these false practices not only for me but all those that can’t find for themselves.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My business, ATOM Media (my last name spelled backwards), specializes in a variety of aspects designed to help fellow businesses. We handle:

Strategic Marketing Leadership
Brand Development and Positioning
Public Relations and Communications Expertise
Business Growth and Development
Digital Marketing and Social Media Mastery
Event Planning and Management

Our work transforms businesses, and we offer them support throughout their growth phases.

Additionally, our Virtual365 is an innovative approach to event planning and hosting. Instead of needing to go somewhere else for a life-changing event, you can access everything you need from the comfort of your home while still forming wonderful connections and memories. We are constantly thinking of new methods to improve our services, and we will never stop aiming for new heights.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was playing ice hockey for the North Providence Cougars. In 1997 I helped lead my team to the first state title in over 30 years. That year I became all state / all division and I scored a hat trick in the all-star game. Those 4 years I have so many memories of playing the best sport and I’ll never forget it.
