Life & Work with Marcella Cook of Town n’ Country

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella Cook.

Hi Marcella, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a mother of 2 with 7 grandchildren (6 living). I’m an artist and let my mom tell it I was born an artist. Throughout my school career I was always drawing something. From Kindergarten to College. I can say I took my art more seriously once I came back from College and started my photography and glass etching business in Cleveland, Ohio. Also after College I met the father of my children. He and I were together for 5 1/2 years before he was killed by Homicide. I took his death hard and for a few years if was hard navigating through life and I didn’t really do too much art for awhile.
My mother was concerned about my mental health and being a mom of 2 young children after he died, she suggested basically voluntold me to move away from Ohio. I chose Florida and that is when my life changed. I can say alot about that my life after his deaf but that’s a story for another time. Navigating through life with 2 young children in a new city/state, and going to school again was a experience that I don’t regret. Jumping to a few years later living in Florida I finally got my grove back, I started creating art again. I started drawing portraits, and glass etching again. I learned from going to church that “I am God’s artist”. I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for God. I’m thriving in digital art, photography, painting and drawing portraits. I have taught art to children for over the last 12 years. Nine of those years with a youth organization. I am known for creative ideas and crafts. I work with anyone that wants to learn art. I have created and designed stages for plays and events. I love my life and I desire to start a business in art that will help people with their mental health and also learn some creative art skills. I would love to be an advocate for mental health art therapy. With God’s help I’m sure I will make it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Sometimes it is smooth and sometimes it is not. I have had many challenges along that way. Owning a home and working a full-time position with 2 small children now adults was a struggle because I had to find a way to add in my art.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a visual artist, graphic artist and a photographer. I specialize in pencil and painted portraits. I am known for my portraits and being a art teacher in a community youth organization. I have learned so much through my walk in my art. God has really helped me push forward in everything I do in my art career. I am most proud of me. I am most proud of my art that makes peoples hearts smile. The excitement and tears of joy makes me feel good when someone is graced with my art. I pray over everything I do for any and everyone that is gifted an art piece by me or commissioned me to do art for them,
I feel what sets me apart is that I do all my art for my clients with my whole heart. I ask God to help me with every piece I produce. I love creating art.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?

My Aunt tells me that I act just like I did when I was a little girl. I love my family. I love making people happy. I always seem to become the motherly figure to my syblings, cousins, friends and work life. I care for people. I was raised by my mother and my father separately. I was a person that didn’t like confrontation, I didn’t like bullies and I didn’t like fighting but always ended up in a fight when I lived in Michigan and then had fights in High School in Ohio for reasons that was beyond my thinking.
I had a lot of interest in art classes, industrial arts, 3D Art classes. I am interested in building my art life up and teaching others along the way. I’m God’s Artist…Thee Majestic Heartist is my artist name. I’m grateful for the gift God gave me.
