Today we’d like to introduce you to AimyLis .
Hi AimyLis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2014, when I was 18 years old, I watched many YouTube videos posted by Freelee The Banana Girl exposing several points on food and the effects that animal products have on our bodies. After that moment, my older brother who at the time, was a pescatarian invited me to have lunch together where I ordered a vegetarian quesadilla. After that, I researched the topic and decided to start my vegetarian lifestyle.
Over the next few months, I watched the documentary “Cowspiracy” which exposed me to a more in depth knowledge of the environmental issues related to animal agriculture.
I spent countless nights researching, watching YouTube videos and reading from reliable sources. One of these videos was “If Slaughterhouses Had Glass Walls” by Paul McCartney from The Beatles, which exposed the treatment of animals in slaughterhouses.
Ten years later, I remain deeply grateful for embracing veganism. My commitment to this lifestyle has only strengthened over time, inspiring me to produce videos, create comics, create snack boxes, share my meals and practical tips on the subject through various social media platforms.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The transition wasn’t always easy. I had to learn how to eat vegetables for starters and there was a point where I was very bored with my meals since I thought I could only eat whole plant based foods and didn’t know that veganized meals existed. For example: veganized pizza, burgers, bacon, cheese, eggs, etc. For me, that is what kept me motivated and going since I had so many more foods to explore.
Social gatherings, family traditions, and everyday meals definitely brought their challenges too. Being vegan around meat eaters can be a bit tricky, but it’s also helped me grow more empathetic and understanding. Even when it’s hard to see others eating animal products, it motivates me to share my story and inspire positive change.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Even though I work in administration professionally, my background is actually in mass communications and film. Nowadays, I focus on sharing the vegan message through social media, highlighting it as a meaningful, healthy, and responsible lifestyle. What I’m really proud of is living authentically as a young vegan for over 10 years and getting to express my passion for this lifestyle in creative ways.
What matters most to you? Why?
What means the most to me is sharing the ethical side of veganism. I hope others can see how following a vegan lifestyle can be fun, rewarding, easy and truly fulfilling while also helping to save the planet, one plant-based meal at a time.
