Today we’d like to introduce you to Sana Yusuf
Hi Sana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born on July 10, 1991 in Detroit, MI….haha just kidding! You’ll learn that I make lots of jokes but the beginning of my story is definitely a tumultuous one. We’ll start where my journey began as a teen mom. I had my son at 19 while I was still in college. It was an intense period, and I vividly remember being so close to my due date that I couldn’t fit into the classroom desks. I even had to use my pregnant belly as a desk to take a test once. One week after my son was born, I remember waddling back into my Organic Chemistry class to take my semester final. Despite these challenges, I graduated with my bachelors degree, Summa Cum Laude, in just three years, at the age of 20.
After graduation, I commissioned into the Army, which set the stage for my next big step: dental school. I graduated from dental school at 24 and continued my service as an Active Duty Captain, working as an Army Dentist for four years.
In 2022, I took a major leap by opening my own dental practice in Wesley Chapel, FL, with a vision to transform the dental experience for our patients. Just six weeks after opening, I gave birth to my third child. Remarkably, 17 days postpartum, I was back in the office, seeing patients and continuing to drive my practice forward.
Today, we’re almost 3 years into our journey and have successfully expanded our offerings to include both a med spa and comprehensive dental services. We’re proud to be Tampa’s first boutique dental office and full-service med spa, dedicated to providing a unique and high-quality experience for our patients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but each challenge has been a learning opportunity. Balancing motherhood with college was one of my earliest and most significant hurdles. Managing my coursework and exams while pregnant, and then caring for a newborn, tested my time management and resilience in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
Entering dental school then the Army was another demanding phase. Both required a tremendous amount of dedication and perseverance. There were long hours and high-pressure situations, but these experiences shaped my work ethic and problem-solving skills.
Starting my own dental practice brought its own set of challenges. Opening a business is always a risk, and it required not only financial investment but also emotional and mental fortitude. Adding to that, the birth of my third child just weeks after launching the practice meant juggling a newborn’s needs with the demands of starting a new business. I had to return to work quickly, balancing the intense demands of my new role with the needs of a newborn, which was incredibly demanding.
Despite these challenges, each obstacle has strengthened my resolve and expanded my capabilities. They’ve taught me the value of adaptability, the importance of a supportive network, and the need to maintain a clear vision despite difficulties. I’ve learned to embrace challenges as part of the journey, knowing that overcoming them often leads to the greatest growth and achievement.
