Daily Inspiration: Meet Morgan Devivo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Devivo

Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was a kid, I’ve always had an interest in writing and creating my own stories. I have cabinets full of journals that document “books” and childish poetry, and my laptop is littered with old Word documents from when I was an aspiring author. In 2nd grade, I typed up my first completed story, Rosey Redberry and the Magic Carpets, and made my mom fix the many grammatical errors before self-publishing. From there, I self-published a novelette in 4th grade and signed a contract for my first full-length novel in 8th grade. I’m currently working on my second novel, Sun and Moon, which I hope to publish in 2025.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. For me, my age is my biggest obstacle. I have to juggle high school, driving practice, and a social life alongside writing a 60,000+ word book, which can get tedious at times (especially when my parents want to binge watch Game of Thrones). Advertising is also more difficult because I fear that readers won’t take my work as seriously or hold my books to the same standards as their adult counterparts. Additionally, most authors in the business are 25+ years old, so it’s harder to form connections without it feeling like a strange student/teacher duo.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a teenage author who enjoys writing sci-fi and fantasy stories. My first novel, 40 Days, was published in 2023 when I was just 13 years old. Now, at 15, I’m writing an even bigger book with more chapters, a complex world, and a potential series in the future. My works are artistic, with small seeds of poetry scattered through the cracks of witty dialogue and exposition. I hope readers flip the last page of my books with an entirely new perspective from when they started.

How do you think about happiness?
Besides writing, listening to music and going in the hot tub are some of the things that make me happy. I love relaxing more than anything else in the world, so I’ll never pass up an opportunity to lay back and let go of life’s worries.
