Community Highlights: Meet Jasmin Versage of Home of Cultures LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Versage

Hi Jasmin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Home of Cultures began with a chance meeting at a local German event between two moms, Angela and me, Jasmin. I’m a German and Spanish teacher, born and raised in Germany, and I had been toying with the idea of starting my own language school for a long time. Angela, originally from Switzerland with El Salvadorian roots, is an IT specialist with a strong entrepreneurial mindset and experience running her own business.

When we met, I shared my ideas with Angela, and it quickly became clear that she could help me turn this dream into reality. After consulting with her several times, I realized that Angela didn’t just understand my vision; she genuinely shared it. So, instead of just being a friendly consultant, I saw her as a potential business partner. One day, I simply asked her, “Hey, you seem to support everything I’ve told you—why don’t you become my partner?” Angela immediately said yes, and that’s how Home of Cultures was born.

From that day on, we’ve both worked tirelessly to build something from the ground up. Initially, my vision was more of a small, one-person operation, but Angela’s entrepreneurial spirit transformed it into something much bigger. For her, the sky is the limit, and working with her has pushed me out of my comfort zone, helping me adopt a more entrepreneurial mindset.

Both of us are raising our children multilingually and understand the challenges and joys that come with it. We realized that we wanted to be a resource for other parents who may struggle or need a push towards raising their own kids bilingually. This shared passion for languages and cultural connection inspired us to create Home of Cultures. Angela and I share the same vision: we want to spread the love for languages, make language learning accessible to everyone, and create a space where every person and every culture feels at home. Our long-term goals include expanding our language offerings, opening a local Saturday language school for kids, and establishing an immersive preschool that promotes bilingualism and multiculturalism. Together, we’re building not just a language school but a true community where culture and learning thrive.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our primary obstacles have been related to managing the entire operation on our own while balancing family responsibilities. We are both moms of young children, so both our personal lives and the demands of a growing business requires constant juggling. We constantly evaluate what tasks we can handle ourselves to save costs and which ones are better outsourced. Starting a business without fully understanding all the components involved has been a steep learning curve for me. This experience has given me a profound appreciation for successful entrepreneurs.
With that being said, maintaining the right mindset has been a major challenge. It’s easy to get discouraged when things don’t go as planned, and there have been moments of doubt about our ability to succeed. Angela is usually the one who pulls me right out of the dark clouds and encourages me to keep grinding.
Marketing has been another significant hurdle, along with juggling the myriad tasks required to build and sustain a business. Figuring out how to market our business, where and to whom are all points we are working out. Building brand awareness in the community has been an uphill battle. As a new school, gaining trust and convincing parents and students to choose us over established institutions requires significant effort in marketing and outreach. We’ve also faced challenges in understanding and adapting to market needs. Being flexible and responsive to changes in demand—such as offering new classes or adjusting schedules—has been crucial.

What’s been proven particularly tough is building a business from scratch while managing a social media presence. Social media, if done properly, demands a full-time commitment, and balancing this with other responsibilities has been a challenging learning experience for both of us.

Overall, these challenges have taught us valuable lessons in resilience and adaptability. While it has been particularly challenging for me, as I am still finding my footing as an entrepreneur, Angela’s experience has been instrumental in overcoming these obstacles. Together, we continue to learn and grow, working tirelessly to make Home of Cultures a successful and impactful language school.
