Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Kushmer.
Hi Ashlee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I worked in Veterinary medicine for 20 years in a private 3 doctor practice in Brandon, FL. I worked in every corner of the hospital. It easily became a 2nd family, a passion, and home for me. As for most COVID changed a lot of things for a lot of people. During this time, I was an essential worker so, I didn’t have extra time on my hands but I needed to find a change in pace. I started to look into OSHA compliance for general industry businesses. Having experience in this already by managing the OSHA compliance program at my clinic, I started the journey. I found all the courses and certification programs via USF and the OSHA institute. Everything was online! I was able to juggle both my job at the animal clinic and General Industry OSHA certification with Continuing Education courses to follow each year.
I officially launched Compliance Rescue, LLC January 2023, as an Independent OSHA consultant. Specializing in veterinary clinics in hopes of keeping every clinic as safe as possible and educating the staff on working “Safer not harder”. I want to be a safety net to the industry to keep the fears of an OSHA incident(s) a thing of the past. With the proper resources that I can provide and annual staff education on all things OSHA and how the facility safely operates, I believe this is achievable. I just gotta keep networking!
I want to provide such services to ALL general industry businesses. Keeping everyone safe, informed, and in control.
This is a tough battle of uphill struggles since most businesses seem uninterested, until there is a problem.
I did step away from my clinic and now have pursued my small business full-time. I now have more time for family, life, hobbies, and of course networking to better grow my small business.
Now, I wouldn’t be telling the whole truth if I didn’t mention that starting my own business and leaving the everyday grind wasn’t also to give my pet PIG the best senior years of his life. Our mini-pig, Jimmy Dean is the reason my husband continues his successful career and I pursued something with more freedoms. This pig is really living his best life, as am I!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part it has been smooth in getting my education, certifications, overhead materials, and business licensing. The hard part is building my clientele. There are other options than little ol’ me out there for business to use to stay in OSHA compliance that “check a box”. When it boils down to it those videos, workbooks, and online quizzes don’t help when there’s a actual problem, question(s), or even an OSHA compliant/ violation at stake. Being a actual person and offering hands on services, I think is GREAT and separates me and what I can offer! Getting this message out there and businesses understanding this is the real struggle.

I am an independent OSHA compliance consultant servicing all of Florida. I can come into your place of business and offer mock inspections of the facility to ensure you’re in compliance of OSHA standards. I will review records for proper keeping and display. I will assist in bringing your site into compliance and offer a full report for your records. I also offer staff education on the important OSHA topics of hazardous communications, proper protective equipment, ergonomics, emergency evacuation plans, and general workplace safety. I will provide documentation of training for all employees, that way no one can say “I didn’t know”. I work directly with you and your business. What sets me apart is that I am hands on and an actual person! Not a video, online quiz or a workbook. Those options for OSHA compliance just are not reliable. I tailor each session and documentation specifically for the facility/ business that I am working with. Each compliance program is DIFFERENT. Unlike the stock programs that are available that in my opinion hurts the business rather than being useful.
My services are unique just like the business that I am working with to keep them safe, educated, and in OSHA compliance.
Any big plans?
My continued goals right now in year 2, is to just keep advertising and growing my clientele. I am reaching out and networking to different distributors in veterinary and human medicine to hopefully drum up a partnership with someone to offer my services to their premier accounts or new accounts. This way it can help that representative of that distribution company with retaining happy accounts or even gathering new accounts of their own. A win-win in my opinion! While still enjoying a better work- life balance and giving Jimmy Dean, a grand senior life that he is enjoying!
