Today we’d like to introduce you to Temple Kortum
Temple, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from college with a B.S. in Interior Design and was so excited to start my career until COVID came along right as I was graduating and slowed things down greatly. I worked different jobs here and there while COVID was dissipating and towards the end of that time my husband and I moved to Tampa for his job and for more career opportunities for myself, where I found the career I now have and love.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Between COVID and having to live in a town with less opportunity for my husband’s job at the time, where I’m at now is where I planned to be right out of college. So I definitely had to pick myself up by my bootstraps and make the most of it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed aviation interior designer. when most people hear Interior Designer they immediately think of decorating houses so I always have to follow up with a small explanation of what I actually do. I work at a mid-sized national architecture firm, designing, and building airports. So what I do on a day-to-day basis works greatly with contractors, architects, and clients. I think being in aviation is so unique and I love being able to teach others about it who aren’t in the industry. I’m proud of getting my licensing which is 3 part test + 2 years of professional experience with another licensed designer. I think a fun thing that sets me apart personally is that I’m also a part time influencer where I get to share about my career journey on social media.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband, my mom, and my college professors are really who go me where I am today. My professors were so engaged and taught me to fall in love with the profession. My mom has always been my biggest cheerleader. And my husband has always been my biggest support and rock!
