Meet Tina Bailey

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tina Bailey . Tina was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Rachel Millar.

Tina, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been passionate about exercise. I’ve also always been a work-aholic. My career in the Office Furniture Industry began in my twenties. I worked long hours and weekends too. I missed my workouts but was too tired after work to go to the gym.

Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
I am a fitness professional who specializes in rehabilitative Personal Training for Seniors and helping women over 50 make their way to a healthier way of living. My work begins with understanding a person’s Health, Exercise History and Fitness Goals. Then I develop a program for exercise that works with their schedule that is fun and measurable. Most Personal Trainers do circuits of resistance and cardio exercises on Gym Machines. Most of my programs are based on functional exercises that includes the use of an individual’s Body Weight as the resistance. Balance and Posture are so important in our lives. Most people believe these are body mechanics we lose as we age. I believe that because we’re not told to practice these two very important tasks throughout our everyday life until there is a fall or we do not have the ability to balance on one leg for more than a few seconds. It’s extremely rewarding to see and hear about a client’s progress. I can measure this through the work I do with them. They also begin to see the positive differences in their day-to-day life doing things such as the following tasks: -going from a seated position to standing without assistance -playing with a child on the floor and getting up without assistance -lifting light to moderately heavy items are no longer a problem -higher energy levels

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Rachel Millar and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Rachel.
I met Rachel 2 years before I approached her for help in the Summer of 2020. We knew each other through working as instructors at Gyms in St Petersburg, Fl.. I always respected her work ethic as a Yoga instructor and learned that she was also a Life Coach which intrigued me.

I reached out to Rachel in June 2020 after going through a very difficult separation from my now ex-husband in April 2020 which was also the beginning of the COVID Pandemic. The Pandemic started with many businesses being closed down. There were various mandates for everyone to stay at home and restrict certain activities. I found myself alone while living in a new city during a very dark time for most people in this world. I was unemployed for the first time in my life. My marriage was destroyed and I found that the financial security I had before the marriage was gone. There were so many things to deal with emotionally but all that mattered to me at the time was to figure out where I should go to restart my career.

Rachel helped me see that I needed to put the brakes on figuring out my professional direction and focus on my grief from the enormous losses I was feeling at the time. Nothing in my life was the same. I was 55 years old, scared and felt very alone.

The work I did with Rachel helped me to visualize what I wanted for myself in both my personal and professional life. She always gave me homework between sessions. This homework helped me learn more about myself and to become more positive in my thoughts. I also learned how to “sit” with my grief, sadness and feelings of “not belonging” when those emotions were present.

There are so many things that I do differently. I still find myself feeling the emotions above but have become more comfortable with how to deal with them. I have learned to give thought to what I want from any given situation before I move forward with actions to change them or accept them. I have learned to consider how the actions of others are a result of their own internal dialogue and not about me.
