Conversations with Lauren Mayhew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Mayhew.

Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am actually a born and bred Tampa native. I went to Berkeley Prep from 1st to 12th grade. I started singing and acting at a very early age and got my first big break when I won a Wilhelmina modeling contest & got flown to NYC. From there, I booked a role on soap opera, ‘Guiding Light.’ I was on the series for 3 years & then left when I got signed to EPIC SONY in a girl band called P.Y.T. We opened for Britney Spears, NSYNC, Destiny’s Child and even performed at the Super Bowl.

When I left the band, I began hosting for NBC’s “Access Hollywood” as a red-carpet correspondent. I also landed a job as the Ring Announcer and National Anthem singer for the WWE’s ‘Smackdown.’

I went to college at UCLA in California and began licensing my own original music to film, TV, & commercials. I have now licensed over 200 songs to notable TV shows and movies.

While I was in LA, I focused on my acting career & starred in shows like: FOX’s “9-1-1,” NBC’s “Blacklist,” & “CBS’s “FBI: Most Wanted,” to name a few. I then moved back to NY, where my DJing career took off. I began as a resident TAO DJ at iconic nightclubs LAVO & Marquee. From there, I nabbed residencies as well at Park MGM in Vegas and Hard Rock Casino in Florida. I also landed a series regular role on Hulu / Peacock show: “Trollstopia” (created by Dreamworks).

Today, I moved my home base back to Tampa, Florida, and bought a house. I have reconnected with old friends and took over as musical director for Next Level Brands, which boasts popular Tampa/St Pete venues such as Boulon, Forbici, Union, and The Exchange Hotel.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. haha When I was young, it was very hard to juggle school and my career. Now as an adult, it’s sometimes difficult being a female in a very male-dominated field. Entertainment is all based on riding a wave. You are either hot or you are not, unfortunately. You can amass an impressive resumé, but none of that really matters if it wasn’t recent. It’s an industry where you constantly have to be reinventing yourself. It’s challenging, but it’s worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Singer/DJ, Actress, and Content Creator. I think what makes me unique is that I am able to draw on each of these abilities and use them towards a common goal. I am able to connect dots and pave my own path forward in my career.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Persistency. You will fail again and again, but all that anyone sees are the successes.
