Conversations with Jordan Tremel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Tremel.

Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a thing for sales. It’s in my blood as my father is also a very successful entrepreneur. I love setting goals for myself and exceeding them, and also having a sense of empowerment. I never wanted to be someone who worked a 9-5 pm or be a slave to a corporate office… I wanted to be able to create my own schedule and have no limitations when it came to my income. My initial interest in real estate started around 2016. I worked as a Credit Risk Analyst focusing on sub-prime loans and my job was to perform third-party oversight/surveillance for servicers or banks. We essentially made sure that these services were progressing along in the buyer delinquency process (loss mitigation efforts, foreclosures, REO’s, etc) and we also ensured that all loss/gain reporting was accurate across the board from the servicer to the trustee. I became pregnant and immediately started thinking of my daughter and how I never wanted to miss a moment of her baby/toddler years. I didn’t want someone else raising my child and feel like I never had the time for her. I finally decided to take the plunge and start the real estate course. It took me more time than it would have if I wasn’t pregnant and working a full-time job, but I was able to pass the course and the state exam with flying colors. I balled my eyes out when I received my results. It was the first time I ever felt so accomplished and all of my efforts actually paid off. It was all around an emotional time for me, so this really gave me the hope I needed. I just felt like it was meant to be, and it was incredible to have the reassurance that I was doing everything right.

Once I went on maternity leave, I put in my two weeks at my job and dove headfirst into real estate. I obtained my license in July of 2017. Like most real estate rookies, it was not an easy start. After quitting my job, I eventually bottomed out and had under $900 in my bank account… my parents even had to pay some of my bills while I tried to get my head above water. It was one of the hardest times of my life. My father was extremely helpful during my transition and helped me establish some clientele – I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. It took me a year to actually have convertible clients and I closed my first transaction in July of 2018… I have been non-stop and have continued to become more successful every day since. I work with a great lender, who is also one of my best friends, and we are able to tag-team and get things done efficiently. I have closed a total of over $14M in real estate since July of 2018 and I ended the year 2020 as Agent of the Year with my brokerage, The Somerday Group. It has felt like such a long and tedious journey, but I am so grateful that I have found my passion… this is the one thing that I can never get enough of or stop chasing. I’m really excited about the future and challenges that lie ahead.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone in this business can say it was an easy start or smooth road. There are tons of challenges – needing capital to get started, obtaining the training you need, establishing leads/clients to name a few! Even after you become more experienced, there will always be challenges. It really takes grit and effort to stay on top and be able to nurture your leads/clients. There can be more downs than ups in this business at times. I believe it’s about 85% of real estate agents that fall out within their first couple of years… it can be very discouraging sometimes. But as with anything, if you have the passion, none of these struggles will stop you. I also have amazing support and an exceptional broker, he’s available any time I have questions or need advice and really explains things so that anyone can understand.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed realtor and I specialize in residential sales. Most of my clients would say that I am extremely responsive and always available, efficient and hardworking, and dedicated to getting the job done. I really take pride in being there for my clients no matter what I have going on or where I am. There are times when I have been on “vacation,” and I have executed deals or been there to give my clients advice, etc. Being available and having your phone glued to you at all times truly makes a huge impact… people love that. There is no downtime or days off. Being in this business means you are on-call 24/7, 365. I never make excuses and am usually always available at the last minute for showings. I’ve also had situations where my client might be denied a loan with one company, or there might be some challenges they are facing with preapproval… I’m a firm believer that there’s always something you can do to make it work, or there’s always a loophole. It’s very rewarding to be able to push through and get it done for them.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
It’s hard to say if good or bad luck really plays a role in this career…it’s definitely hit or miss because not every client is convertible (qualified, responsive, etc). If you put in the effort and persevere, success will unfold. The good and bad is just what comes with the business. There will be times of extreme success, and then there will be times where you are slower. Not every lead is workable and you can’t win them all. You can do everything possible right, and you still might not win the deal or the client. Either way, you always learn and get better.
