Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Hartley
Hi Johanna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
It’s been a journey!! I was what I could consider a pretty sick child. I battled asthma for many years as I was growing up. At least once a winter I would have such a bad asthma attack it would require multiple doctors visits, endless medications, and at times hospitalizations. When I became a teenager, I strived to be more active, but lurking in the dark corner was my asthma. It definitely limited my activities. I reached a point that I was also fed up with getting prescribed one more medicine that did not seem to work. Even as a teenager this was exhausting and seemed like there must be a different way. Around this time my mother started taking us to a chiropractor for adjustments. And slowly I noticed my asthma improve!! That was the only thing I changed or introduced into my life that was different. Needless to say I was so happy, and knew that I must become a chiropractor. At the time I had no idea why my asthma would improve with chiropractic care, but through schooling and training I soon would find out. I also vowed that I would educate my patients about the array of benefits that chiropractic has. Chiropractic care is much more than pain relief and pain management!!! My twin sister (Madalyn) and I have a thriving Chiropractic practice in St Pete, Fl. It took me many of years working for others to learn all the ways I DID NOT want to practice. I wanted to create a safe, healing space for people. I also wanted to accept all patients as long as they felt like we were the right doctors for them. This has allowed us to help endless amounts of people from your corporate athletes, weekend warriors, dads, pregnant moms, ladies trying to get pregnant, babies, children, and many more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
HAHA!! Is it ever? No definitely not smooth, I graduated Chiropractic school when I was a ripe 24 years of age….. I took a job in place I knew no-one, but at the time it was the perfect fit for me. I learned a lot, and I adjusted a ton of people (which perfected my skill). Sadly, after 3.5 years I became burnt out and my body was hurting from the constant physical demand of a high volume office (I was adjusting 350-400 patients in 4 days!!) That is when I moved to St Pete, and I started working in a similar type of office. That position did not last as well, and I was forced to make a hard decision. Either I could start at a new office… again or I could open my own. I never thought I would open my own place, but it was really the only option. Then in September 2018, Atlas Chiropractic open its doors and I never looked back once. It was by far the best decision I have made.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are located in St Petersburg, Fl. and we are AWESOME!! It’s my twin sister (Madalyn) and I who are the doctors. Our jam is pregnant and postpartum moms, but we absolutely love to see their whole family. We created a safe and healing space for our patients. We do not rush them through their treatment, we listen, and devise a plan with the patient on what will work best with them considering their goals, time, and finances. We have helped so many patients with better sleep, more energy, fewer aches/pains/headaches, avoid unwanted surgeries, jaw pain (TMJD), ear infections, decrease/avoid scoliosis, and much more. Chiropractic is amazing it allows for your nervous system to work at its best. And if we don’t remember from science class, your nerves control everything in the body all organs, muscles, joints, feeling. We need them to do their job at 100% or we feel bad, have pain, or loss of function (hence why my asthma improved). We do a very thorough assessment to figure out what each patient needs. Overall we are genuine, caring chiropractors that love what we do and love helping your family.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Heading to the beach with my family. We grew up in Delaware, so Rehobeth Beach was the place to be. We would drive over an hour to get there!! But once we were there it was always a fun filled day of boardwalk fries, carnival rides and games.
