Hidden Gems: Meet Jessica Townsend of THE AMARGO EXPERIENCE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Townsend.

Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.

I’m originally from NEW YORK CITY. I moved to Tampa in November 2014 for a job. I’m currently no longer in that specific role I originally moved here for, however, I do still work for the company, just working my way around learning as much as I can.

I currently attend Christian Community Baptist church where our pastor is Deloris James Cain. I got baptized in 2016 and again gave my life to Christ in 2018. When I got re-baptized  it was a rededication for a spiritual cleanse. I wasn’t raised in the church but I decided what and how I was moving in life wasn’t working for me and needed a change.

I needed to be different on the inside in a healing and healthy way in order to make a change in the people’s lives connected to me and those who god will bring to me. I have always been a hard worker and always try to put my best foot forward.

Because of this I decided to start a side business call THE AMARGO EXPERIENCE right now I do teeth whiting and yoni steams but plan on expanding in the next year or two once I get my aesthetician license where I plan on focusing on natural products, especially for people with sensitive skin as that’s my passion due to always having acne my whole life. My skin is sensitive to everything lol.

If I’m going to work hard, I figured I might as well work hard for myself. I’m a strong believer “what you put out there will receive”. So, I do my best to treat others with respect and love. I fail sometimes but hey nobody’s perfect.

God still working on me and I’m okay with that.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

When I moved to Florida, I moved here on my own. Not being around family has been hard and lonely especially on holidays.  I travel back and forth to see them as much as I can but with the pandemic, it was harder to do so. Also, it can get expensive. For a long time, I struggled with knowing my worth and setting boundaries.

I have learned it’s okay to say NO because NO is a complete sentence. I learned love is not enough, you need respect no matter the kind of relationship. People who I thought I had a lifetime with are no longer in my life and I had to learn to be okay with that. I had to learn to be okay with letting people go because I may be hindering them by trying to keep them in my life or because they just may not be healthy for me.

Words hold power; so be very careful what you say to yourself and others. There is life and death in the power of the tongue. There are days I struggle with being confident in my skin. They say we are hardest on ourselves so in this season I’m just learning to love the skin I am in.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

I just newly started operating my own business. At first, I started with teeth whiting. I have two different types of services 30-minute whitening sessions and an 1HR whitening session for men, women, and teens 16 and over. I also provide YONI steams for women. I always believed your smile is important because people naturally look at people’s teeth (I know I do lol) but I wanted people to feel comfortable in their skin and feel it starts with a smile.

Diet plays a big part in staining our teeth. People who smoke, drink wine, coffee, dark teas, and even some fruit ECT over time these things will stain our enamel so I wanted to provide an affordable way to get your teeth at their best.

Why I decided on starting the The Amargo Experience was because I have people in my life from different walks of life and I want every single person I encounter to experience the experience they need in that moment. Some people need relaxation so I put on jazz and allow them to catch some ZZ if need be.

Some people like to be ratchet, boogie, and chill and I want to be able to provide whatever is needed at that moment to them. I want every customer to leave happy and satisfied. I have had spiritual conversations, political conversations, and random what’s going on in the world of Hollywood conversations it all depends on the customer.

My goal is for them to leave feeling changed and confident but most of all I want their experience to be what they want it to be!!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?

I learned it’s important to make sure you tell the ones you hold dear you love them and to forgive because tomorrow is never promised. I lost my grandma during the pandemic out of nowhere in 2020 and I still struggle with missing her.

I also learned it’s important to leave the house. I know that sounds simple but I work from home like most people who got sent home. There were times I wouldn’t leave my house for days not even realizing it. There was a time I got depressed and couldn’t figure out how or why. Until I realized I had been looking at the same walls for days on end. So, it’s important to go on walks, sit on the grass meditate outside if need be just so you don’t lose your mind being home.

And this is coming from someone who’s a homebody. I also think it’s important to learn new hobbies. The world is so, full of things to do and learn  but you have to have the drive to want more and to want to do better for yourself. This pandemic helped me learn new things about myself,  things I like and dislike. The key is to try because you never know what hobbies you learn may become a business and gain profit or just a simple Refuge for your mind.
