Exploring Life & Business with Jerilyn Botwinik of Nurse Practitioner On The Go

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerilyn Botwinik.

Hi Jerilyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The story of how I became a successful entrepreneur began more than thirty years ago. I graduated from the University of Miami in 1991 with a B.A. in Biology and in 2005 from the University of Tampa with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.

My three decades of experience in the medical field include working as a Medical Technologist, an RN in the specialties of Emergency Room, Trauma, and Critical Care, and as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialties of Endocrinology, Pulmonry and Critical Care, Sleep Medicine, Geriatrics and Student Health.

The idea of opening my own practice was born while on vacation overseas when a fellow traveler became ill and needed a Physician to be called to our hotel. At the time I was unemployed after having been laid off by a large hospital chain along with a group of other colleagues.

Upon my return to Tampa, I began researching the need for health care services for travelers and home-bound patients. I discovered through contacts at Home Health Agencies that a real need existed for patients who were discharged from the hospitals without a Primary Care Provider and were often unable to get out of the house to the office.

I decided to blaze my trail and opened Nurse Practitioner On The Go, LLC, and began seeing patients in October 2019. After a slow start, and then COVID-19 during the beginning of 2020, things began to pick up with referrals from Home Health Agencies in June of 2020 for primarily home-bound patients.

My business has thankfully taken off since then and I have not looked back! I have hired another Nurse Practitioner who works part-time and I plan to hire an RN specializing in Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by the end of August,

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it was not a smooth road, as I had COVID-19 to battle through during my start-up. The other struggles included how to advertise and get the name Nurse Practitioner On The Go and what I do out there to the public.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nurse Practitioner On The Go, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who makes House calls. I accept Medicare, Tricare for Life, some Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, and United Healthcare plans.

I can work as a Primary Care Provider and order all of your prescription medications, lab work, and imaging exams. I see patients for acute care problems, chronic care, sick visits, and work clearances.

I come to you, so you don’t have to sit in an office and wait.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Bringing medical services to patients’ houses, especially those who are not able to get out of the house to their Primary Care Provider.
