Conversations with Kate Daigle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Daigle.

Hi Kate, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey to becoming a therapist in 2015 when I started my Master’s program in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling, with a focus in Marriage and Family therapy, from the University of South Florida. I started out in the field, working with mental health in the jail and legal system and gained experience in working with substance use and addictive behaviors. Additionally, I gained experience in working with various levels of trauma through mental health counseling in this particular environment. From there, I found myself branching out into private practice and transitioning into mental health work in a college setting due to my own experiences with burnout and needing to refocus on my own needs and self-care. I’m passionate about helping others and reached the point of needing to do my own work to maintain and sustain that passion for being in a helping profession.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Overall, the road has been smooth. With that being said, I definitely faced obstacles and hurdles along the way. My experiences with burnout as a young professional in the field really challenged me to explore my “why” and find ways to reignite my reasons for doing what I love to do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have found a good balance and outlets to work with populations in which I feel I am most helpful. My work in the mental health field is in line with holistic approaches, which is related to my belief that there is not just one factor that contributes to mental health concerns. While I have experience with many different issues and mental health diagnoses, populations I specialize in include couples, disordered eating, individuals in life transition and Gen Z. This holistic approach is different than traditional talk-therapy because it engages many aspects of your life and allows you to feel more empowered to make changes in not just mental health but physical, spiritual, relational and emotional health as well.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I originally started in school to work from an animal behavior approach to Psychology. I spent multiple years in my undergraduate program engaged in field research with wild dolphins, which are my favorite animal.
