Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Macias and Zoe Vera.
Hi Emily and Zoe, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We would always take my mom’s grandmother and my great grandmother out to eat ice cream and talk for a while. We’ve always wanted to do something that made people happy, and we’ve always loved the idea of bringing families together and through our love for ice cream and sweets in general, we thought… everyone loves this… What better way than through ice cream? We both are obsessed with sweets, so we take pride in making a treat you’ll always remember. We introduced fresh baked goods that we make every day from scratch to incorporate with the ice cream. Brownie sundae’s, cookie sandwiches, milkshakes mixed and topped with cookies or brownies. We make something for everyone. We also have the baked goods in case someone isn’t an ice cream person, we offer vegan ice cream as well as dog ice cream. We make in the house for the family fur baby and we’ve even introduced fresh hot food as well! We want everyone to have a good experience with their family and through their tummy! <3
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, we decided to open before the pandemic. We went through many obstacles to get our licenses and inspections, and when we finally passed our final inspections to open, the pandemic hit. There was no seating inside, and people were not leaving their houses. It was super sad for us because the whole reason we opened was for people to come together. We thankfully found ways around that, though. We advertised on Instagram and on Facebook and offered quarantine packages like pints with cones and toppings and made a walk-up window for people to safely get their goodies, which quickly worked out as a doggy pick up window as well for locals who were only going outside to walk their babies. Word quickly spread among the neighborhood, and we were like the neighborhood’s little personal sweet shop. Thankfully a lot of people posted pictures on their social media and told their friends about us to help us spread the word through the hard times. We still have our walk-up window and enforce social distancing and run a super clean show, and now we’re thankfully able to offer spread out outdoor seating, which is pretty great. We’re still new and getting our name out there, but we’re so thankful for the people we’ve met already along this journey!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in offering fresh goods! We make all of our hot food fresh to order, all of our baked goods daily, and everything in our inventory is truly put together with love. Our attention to detail is unmatched. Our desire to exceed customer expectations is our top priority. We utilize our imagination and creative ideas to bring new products from Frozen hot chocolates to Nutella empanadas. We strive to push the borders of our menu further and further daily.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
To anyone who wants to start a business, there are three keys that we try to remember daily, try to keep products that are in demand and what you see that people truly enjoy, products that are unique solely to you, and to stay positive even through the struggles. You will be reminded in the smallest ways about why you started this journey, so don’t give up and keep putting your heart into your craft.
