Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan DiMeo.
Hi Morgan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
At the age of two, I started dancing. Through my first undergraduate degree at the University of South Florida, I continued my dance journey. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance with a Ballet concentration. At USF, I discovered my passion for nutrition as well, while I was completing my Nutrition Science minor. While dipping my toes in the world of Nutrition and Dietetics, I soon learned that to practice Nutrition and Dietetics. It would require me to continue my education to get a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, participate in an extensive internship/residency, then sit for the national exam.
At the time, while just finishing my undergrad degree, the thought of going back to school was not an option at the time. I had dreams of moving to Los Angeles and dancing professionally out there, so that is what I did for a year after graduating from USF. While in LA, I found myself continually researching the opportunities of where I could go back to school to become a dietitian. I began skipping my usual weekly dance classes that were my favorite to spend time working on a nutrition certification or extending on my nutrition knowledge. After about a year in LA and meeting my now-husband, I applied for the Nutrition and Dietetics program at Keiser University in Lakeland, FL. I was accepted and began classes within four months of getting my acceptance letter.
Before starting school, I knew that becoming an entrepreneur and starting my own nutrition. Private practice was my end goal. I graduated in February 2020, was forced to change my exam date four times due to COVID, and finally was able to take the exam in June and passed on my first try and was officially Morgan Narvick, RDN/LDN. Prior to taking the exam, I accepted a job offer at two local hospitals working as a Clinical Dietitian while I also build my private practice. I found that my passion for nutrition and dietetics was not working in the hospital, so I resigned from that position earlier than expected and dove right into my private practice full time! I am so thankful for my journey and how it all lead me to where I am today. I get to share my passion for nutrition with others and help others navigate their own nutrition journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting to where I am today was definitely not a smooth road, nor was it a straight road either. There were many expected and unexpected bumps and turns along the way. My biggest struggle was after graduating with my BFA in Dance Performance. I felt like all I knew was dance and that I was “expected” to go out and dance with a company or perform on stage, even if that wasn’t where my passion really was at the time. I am grateful that I still followed through with my dreams of moving to LA to pursue dance, but I am even more grateful for where it leads me to today, living the entrepreneurial life. The second biggest struggle for me was making the final decision to resign my Clinical Dietitian role and move into a more unconventional dietitian role of owning my own private practice. I had many people along the way tell me that I should get more experience in the hospital, that I was too young to start my own business, or that I wouldn’t be successful because I graduated a year ago. I’m now happy to say that I do run a successful private practice called Movin’ Nutrition, specializing in weight management and helping others achieve their long term goals.
As you know, we’re big fans of Movin’ Nutrition. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
My company, Movin’ Nutrition, is a one-on-one nutrition counseling business that works with individuals to help them achieve their weight management goals, whether that be weight loss, weight maintenance, or weight gain. I take a non-diet approach to weight management. I do not prescribe my client’s fad diets but rather work on their current habits and lifestyle choices and start incorporating small changes in their choices that will help them achieve their overall goals. My theory is that strict dieting doesn’t work, nor are strict diets easy to follow. They require you to miss out on social life, cause restrictive eating patterns, and may not produce the long term results you deserve. This theory is my reasoning behind how I counsel my clients. I find ways to include foods that my clients enjoy and educate them on how they can live their everyday life without having to feel like they are following a strict diet. I offer concierge nutrition programs that run for three months, six months, or 12 months, depending on the needs of the client. This concierge service is what sets me apart from others. I am available to my clients via text, phone call, messaging via their client portal, or email at all times. If a client is grocery shopping and they have a question, I am available to assist them. If a client is going out to eat and needs help navigating the menu, I am there to help them navigate the menu. I am offering consistent accountability and support for my clients, which, in turn, provides my clients with the confidence and knowledge they need to achieve their long-term goals successfully.
